In first game of the season Lots of scoring by Pefites On Saturday, October 29th the Bruton's Petites played their first game against Oakwood. It was a very exciting game for the Port Perry team and fans since the first goal was scored just one and half minutes into the game and the last goal was scored with just over a minute left in the game; throughout the game goals were scored every 2 or 3 minutes with the glory being spread among all the players. Although the Ajax team won, the Port Perry girls were ex- cited and encouraged by the ex- cellent offensive and defensive plays they were able to make. Katie Senyk, who - has become a very talented goalie over the past two years, again played a strong game in net aid- home season Sunday when Markham attended and showed them a very fine display of Ringette. The Port girls tried hard but were completely outclassed by the hard skatirig and good passing - of the Markham' club: Bristol and Tracy both blocked many shots, but could not get them all as Markham shooters put 13 in the net. : Kim, Kelly, Tanya and Jennife played very well on .defense,. breaking up a lot of plays and do- ing some good checking. They showed why they are considered one of the strongest checking Kinnumen (1 goal, 2 assists), Heather Lally (2), Vicki Stainton (2 goals, 2 assists), Linda Payne (2 goals, 2 assists), Brandy Har- ris (1 goal, 1 assist), Jeanie Templeman, Amanda Webb (1), Lisa Dodd (1 goal, 1 assist), Jen- ny Storms ( 1 goal, 2 assists), Deanna Dempsey (1 goal, 1 assist), Shona Moase ( 1 goal, 1 assist) and Katherine Ellis ( 1 goal). Also assisting was Kyla McCrae. Amanda Clouthier was playing her first game and Sarah Strong team effort ed by the defensive play of Pam Hiltz, Bonni-Jo Norton, Janna Senyk, and Brooke Shanley. Jennifer Elliot, Shelley Lazen- by, and Brooke Shanley, who were playing in their very first Ringette match, showed a good grasp of the game and put out ex- cellent effort. : In spite of the loss, the coaches were all delighted with the great effort and hustle shown by all members of the team, and felt that many of the skills taught in practice were showing up con- sistently during the game. Tweens re-building Allen's Tweens opened their units in ringette. : : Amy and Karen came back on- to defense for a few plays and pro- vided some extra strength. The girls should all remember that this is a building year. For most of the girls it is their first year in the Tween division and for the others who were in the Regional division last year, they will find the higher division a lit- tle tougher. Mr. Morden, Mr. Fox and Mrs. * Pelow all have seen positive signs from the girls that there are bet- ter days ahead. Next Sunday we will play in ~ Pickering and continue our quest towards a berth in the Provincial Championships. Coyne played well as goalie. This year's team has strength in numbers, experience and team spirit. Under the excellent leader- ship of coaches Dan Harris, Mr. Payne and Mr. Webb the team should have an excellent season. Pee Wees win 14-1 The Stone Realty Pee Wees had a successful week winning once and tying once. On Monday the boys travelled to Pickering and came home with a 1-1 tie. The boys out-played Pickering from the opening faceoff but couldn't pull the trig- ger in time to light up the scoreboard. Jeff Card scored Port's only goal assisted by Mike Sluggett. On Saturday night the boys hosted Lindsay and it was a dif- ficult story as they scored 14 times winning by the score of 14-1. Everybody shared in the scoring as all 13 players picked up at least one point. Brent Harper led the way with 3 goals and 3 assists. Jeff Card added 2 goals and 3 assists. Steve Desautels scored twice and add- ed an assist while Scott Heasman and Scott Wylie also scored twice with Scott also adding two assists. " Todd Smart scored once and set up 4 others while Chad Garvock and Jeremy Norton finished off the scoring with one goal each. Chad also added two assists while Jeremy added one. Clay Scott and Chad Kearns each picked up two 'assists with Mike Sluggett, Neil Mueller and Aron Royle each ad- ding one assist. This game showed what kind of balance the Stone gang possesses this year and their ability to work as a team. If they can continue to carry this attitude for the rest of the season it should be a very suc- cessful year.
