- 40 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 1, 1988 Rescue sled turned over to ambulance Several years ago, the Port Perry Snowmobile Club pur- chased a rescue sled, the kind that can be towed behind a snowmo- - bile and used to transport an in- jured person over rough terrain. The Club never had cause to use it, and this fall, Club mem- bers decided to ask the Port Perry Ambulance Service if the sled could be utilized. The reply was a positive "yes" \and last week, Snowmobile Club president Jim Adams, vice presi- dent Charlie Harper and director Marion Lee turned the sled over to ambulance attendants Ross Taylor and Roy Tear. Naturally, they hope they will never have need to use it, either, but under certain conditions, the sled will be a great help to atten- dants in bringing injured persons to safety. Mrs. Lee also turned over to the Ambulance Service the keys to one of her snowmobiles, which will be available to the Service at any time. The machine will be kept at Mrs. Lee's residence at Honey"s Beach north of Port Per- Ps And several of the ambulance attendants own snowmobiles which they can press into service if necessary. One area where this sled cer- tainly could get some use is on Lake Scugog during the winter. If somebody suffers a serious injury on the ice, and it is impossible to reach the person by ambulance. Alos, the sled is large enough that an ambulance attendant can accompany injured persons while they are being transported. The sled was manufactured by Bombardier specifically for rescue' urposes. "We (the Club members) felt it would be a good thing if the Ambulance Service had this sled land could put it to use," said Mrs. Lee last week.
