The school asked for volunteers to participate in both events, and our school spirit hele what it is, all positions were quickly filled. The assembly, in particular, had a very unusual act - Chris Ellins and Dean Stone, both students of PPHS, per- formed their coruscations, juggle- ing flaming torches, and perfor- ming both fire eating and fire breathing. It was quite an exhibi- Eugene Whelan to visit Durham This Friday, November 4th at 9:30 a.m. Eugene Whelan, former Minister of Agriculture will be in Port Perry at the Doug Moffatt Champaign Headquarters on Reach Road 8 (Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club). Mr. Whelan will be discussing the Free Trade Deal and its impact on Agriculture. Joining Mr. Whelan for his stop in Port Perry will be the Honourable John Eakins, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Bill Ballinger MPP for Durham-York, and Doug Moffatt the Liberal candidate for Durham. Mr. Whelan was Minister of Agriculture from 1972-1979 and 1980-1984. He was elected to the House of Commons in 1962 as MP for Essex-Windsor. Since his retirement from Parliament he has been an Agricultural consul- tant. Mr. Whelan is touring the country at present explaining the implications of the Free Trade Deal and his stop in Port Perry precedes visits to Lindsay, Peter- borough and Cobourg on Friday. On a less fiery, although more sour note, there was a great tur- nout for the surprise event at lunch in the cafeteria. Mike Kosurko won the challenge, which was to be the first to eat an entire® lemon. But this is not the only thing happening in our cafeteria. Again this year, Port Perry hosted a rugby team, this time from Olchfalts School in Swansea, Wales. Our team played against them but lost to their high-calibre game. Everyone enjoyed having them, and they enjoyed their visit, being very impressed with our school spirit. Keep it up, Rebels. And in other sports news, our school teams have been doing quite well. Our Junior Basketball team has only one loss, our Midget Basketball team will pro- bably advance to LOSSA, and our Midget Boy's Volleyball team has already won there. Special con- gratulations to Melissa Rodway, who placed third at LOSSA, first in Durham/York (DYSSA), and who will advance to OFSSA (On- tario wide) in Kingston next weekend.
