I Bs 22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 4, 1968 Parking requirement law questioned by store owner| Township council has agreed that a Queen Street businessman will have to provide seven new parking spaces when he constructs a 2700 square foot addition to the rear of his store. Wayne Luke, owner of Luke's Country Store, had been told he would need to provide ten parking to meet the requirements of the local by-laws. Mr. Luke appeared in front of council Monday afternoon to seek clarification of the parking space requirements as they relate to his plans for the addition, which is 1350 square feet of retail store space and a similar amount of 'space for storage on two levels. Council agreed with Mr. Luke's contention that in calculat- ing the number of parking spaces required, the number of square feet of an old building that he had used for storage should be deducted from the total. That old building, which he had tom down last week to make way for the addition, was just over 900 square feet. However, council did not agree with his suggestion that creating new storage space for a retail store should not increase the parking space requirements. "The by-law is clear. Parking spaces are required for related retail uses and that includes storage," said administrator Earl Cuddie. Confusion over the number of parking spaces required held up Mr. Luke's application for a build- ing permit last week. He told council Monday that he should have ample land at the rear of the store to provide the seven parking spaces. He also noted that once the ad- dition is built, it will have large delivery doors, which means that trucks won't have to stop on Queen Street to make deliveries to his shops. Mr. Luke will have to submit a site plan to the Township build- ing department pointing out the parking spaces before a building permit can be issued. Soccer (From page 1) proper washroom building. But the Club can't get provincial grants to build on land leased from Durham Region. A petition with more than 100 names has been filed with the Township asking for a long term lease so the Soccer Club can get on with erecting a proper wash- room facility. Don't be late!
