Incumbent coun- cillor Don Cochrane has not stated. publicly what his political inten- tions will be for the up-coming municipal elections. He as been the Island rep for the past two terms. Mr. Goreski said his decision to enter the political arena for the first time was not made on the spur of the moment, but is some- thing he has been thinking about ._for-quite some time. Mr. Goreski, 34; is'the first ~ He said that one issue that concerns him is the overall quality of Lake Scugog, and he believes that the Ward 3 rep and the coun- cil generally should be paying at- tention to the well being of this natural resource. He believes municipal recrea- tion facilities in the Township need to be improved, but any new facilities should serve a large number of people, not small spe- cial interest groups. Mr. Goreksi has lived all his life in the Township. He has been active in the Kinsmen Club, in- cluding a term as President, and is currently a director with the Scu- gog Chamber of Commerce. A resident of Concession 10, he works with the family-owned marina and campsite on the west shore of Scugog Island. He and his wife Lori have two young children, ageg three and six. He told the Star that during the election campaign he plans to do a lot of door-knocking and lis- tening to the concerns of the resi- dents of Scugog Island. Mrs. Banting is the chairper- son of Block Parents in Green- bank, and is willing to assist a co- ordinator in getting the program resurrected in Port Perry. She said the Block Parent pro- gram in Port Perry needs an over- all co-ordinator. A fair amount of work will be involved initially to get things running again. Mrs. Banting pointed out that the Safe Arrival program at local schools is not the same as Block Parents, although those who are Block Parents often work as vol- unteers for the Safe Arrival phone program at the schools.
