"Homegrown" is an '81 Dodge Ram owned, built and driven by Harry Schillings of Nestleton. And he's the only Canadian ever to qualify for the two wheel truck pull at the prestigious Indy event, considered the World Series in truck and tractor pulling com- petitions. To qualify for the Indy Super Pull this coming January, Harry had to finish among the top ten pullers in ten events from the World Champion Pulling Series this summer and fall. He did it the hard way, miss- ing two of the ten events, but still with enough points to take a crack at the "big boys" from the States in the Indy pull, which will be broadcast on TSN. Harry has been involved in truck pulling competitions for several years, but this was the first season for "Homegrown," the Dodge Ram powered by a fully in- jected alcohol 557 cu. in. hemi engine. That sounds like a lot of horsepower (and it is!) but some of the Stateside competition will have upwards of 700 cu. in. under the hoods of their machines. But Harry has established himself in this popular sport through his driving skill, mechan- ical ability, plus a lot of hard work and determination thrown in. He travelled over 15,000 miles from July through Septem- ber to compete in the qualifying events for the Super Pull. Fans at truck pull competi- tions have no trouble recognizing "Homegrown" as Canadian, thanks to the large flag proudly on display. Harry is looking forward to January and the competition at the Dome in Indianapolis where he'll put "Homegrown" up against the best pullers from the States and Europe. Just qualiifying for this pre- stigious cvent was a feat in itsclf for a "rookie" driver and a new truck. Scugog Food Bank Operation Scugog's Food bank is getting a real financial boost from one of our local businesses. On Monday, October 3, 1988, for 24 hours, the Donut Press, at 20 Water Street, Port Perry, will be donating 50 per cent of it's total sales to the Food Bank. Since the Food Bank can't ac- 80 VANEDWARD DRIVE PORT PERRY, ONTARIO PRECISION AUTO ELECTRIC ono 985-8406 cept perishable food, the Donut Press owner, Paul Papanikoloulos, felt this project was an excellent way for the donut shop to support the efforts of the Food Bank.
