Results of Brooklin Horticulture show Ashburn and Area News by Florence Ashton Once again this week, the school doors swing open as all teachers and students head back to the classroom to begin another school term. Good luck to each student as they begin a new grade, even to the youngest who will be starting school for the first time. Its' a whole big, new world qut there for them, and no doubt some of our young people are beginning university. Even though it has been an ex- tremely hot summer, it seems to be the summer months have sped by much too quickly, however, we can look forward to the beautiful fall colours as they unfold during the next few weeks. I have the results of the EWING -- Brooklin Horticulture Society An- nuals Show for you this week. Total number of entries was 133. Special awards are as follows: Best Specimen Flower (not gladiolus) donated by Brooklin Nurseries went to Ken Powell; Best Specimen Gladiolus donated by Hy-Hope Farm was won by Marg Beath; Best Vegetable donated by McKee Fuels, won by John Beecroft. The Best Decorative donated by Whitby Mall Florist went to Hilka Wilerink. Congratulations to all of our prize winners. Keep in mind the Chrysanthemum and Vegetable Show will be on Wednesday evening, September 28th, at Brooklin United Church Hall. This will include "Spring KNIGHT Elaine Knight and James Ewing were united in mar- riage on June 11, 1988 at Burns Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stuart McEntyre officiating and with the assistance of Mrs. Rita Davidchuk at the organ. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Knight of Ashburn and the groom is the son of Mrs. Elien Ewing of Niagara Falls. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a full organdy and taffeta lace gown with beaded pearls weaved throughout the lace and a ruffled Victorian neckline accented by a strand of pearls. The.three-quarter length tule flourished veil was delicately attached by a band of twisted pearls and lily of the valley. Linda Robins, friend of the bride, was maid of honour. The bridesmaids were Florence Gibson and Kelly Lainson, both friends of the bride, Sandy Bukator, sister of the groom and Michelle Bukator, niece of the groom was the flower girl. The attendants all wore aqua ballerina-length gowns. The groom and his attendants all wore grey tuxedos. The best man was Blair Kaski, friend of the groom. The ushers were Chris Bukator, brother- in-law of the groom, Kevin Knight, brother of the bride and Chris Knight, nephew of the bride. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Acapulco and are now residing in Bramalea. ; Prior to the wedding, Elaine was a teacher at Brooklin Day Nursery. With September, we get back into the regular routine of meetings and other activities within our church. On Wednesday evening of this week, the Eleanor Knight Group of the Women's Missionary Society will meet at 8 o'clock at our home. Last Sunday morning we were pleased to welcome to Burns pulpit the Rev. Thomas Gemmell. Rev. Gemmell has been with us on another occasion, and he delivered a very inspiring ser- mon. Florence Ashton sang a solo titled 'Deeper and Deeper'. Next Sunday, Rev. McEntyre will return to the pulpit. Next Sunday, we will dispense with all regular classes at Church School. Instead, we will meet at the Community Centre promptly at 10 a.m. We will enjoy a fun time of singing, games & food. Everyone is welcome! In case of rain, we will be at the Church Hall.
