Canvassers needed for C.N.I.B. drive For the past seventy years the Canadian National Institute for the Blind has been working hard to ameliorate the condition of the blind in Canada. The 1980's are a time of much change and many challenges. As society grows older the number of persons who experience a serious loss of sight grows larger and larger. The CNIB York Durham district office has been providing services to any one of any age who suffers a vision loss in the Scugog Township for over ten years, In op for CNIB 10 Sonlinue assis ns who are and visually impaired in the year to come, a to door canvass of Port Perry and the surrounding areas is being planned for the later part of September. As with many of the endeavors under- taken by non-profit organizations the support of community volunteers is essential from Port Perry, Greenbank and Seagrave. If you could spare two to three hours per night for three of four nights in the later part of September, your assistance would go a long way to insure that rsons who are blind and visual- y impaired persons can continue to get help from the York Durham CNIB when they need it. If you are interested please call John Olivero at 985-8608 or the District office in Markham at 294-5752. new year 1st Port Perry Cubs ended their cubbing year June 4th with the winning of the Bryan Rabb Memorial Trophy. This past year has been very successful for all of the 1st Port Perry organization. Under their new sponsor Church of Ascension, the number of cubs has doubled previous year and beavers were held to previous year. This past year included a family Christmas party - with Rainbow the clown and a family swim at Uxpool. The Beavers under the leader- ship of Karen Sanders and Beth Potter involved the boys in a number of crafts, songs and ac- tivities as well as participating in a Beaver Fun Day and Beaveree. The year ended with an ice cream party. The cubs under leaders Paul Sherwood and Lloyd Greenough participated in the Pine Ridge District Kub Kar Rally where three of the boys were awarded trophies for best design and best over all car. They also took part in the Uxbridge Bike Rodeo where Jefferey Morden won the Junior Championship. The cubs toured the A.G. Simp- son plant in Port Perry as well as the Regional Police Station in Oshawa. 1st Port Perry Group Commit- tee Chairperson, Ellen Greenough, stated they were suc- cessful at raising money through Apple Day, Scout Calendars, Christmas tree sales as well as being given donations to update and replace equipment. This year itish they will be able to form a land or water scout troop but lack a leader at present. Registration is scheduled for Sept. 12, 6:30 at Church of Ascen- sion.
