Congratula- tions to the team of John Scott and Ken Elliott who were victorious over Jay Neill and Joe Vander- wyst, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. In the consola- tion round Drew Cardinal and Paul Linton defeated Scott Mac- Tavish and Jeff Murray, 6-4, 6-2. In the Ladies' Division con- gratulations to the team of Sophia Brendon and Heather Muir, vic- torious over Laurie Cooper and Winnie Tobin, 6-0, 6-1. In the con- solation round Johanna Ricketts and Nancy Forrester defeated Cathy Reese and Quinn Sutherland, 6-3, 6-1. The Monday night league is entering into it's fifth week. The standings are as follows; Stiller's Swinging Volley's 715 pts., McCrae's Heavy Topspinners 6 pts., Martin's Service Aces 5% pts., tied at 4 pts. each are McCrae's Miss Hit Winners and Alexander's Overheads of Smash, Burt's Backhand Slices 3%. pts., Forrester's Forehand Dropshots 3 pts., and Scott's Offensive Lobs 2% pts. The Wednesday morning Ladies League have had a good turnout over the summer. A fun tournament is being planned for this league on September 7th. A sign-up is posted on the courts. She was in her 88th year. Elva was born August 7th, 1900 in Cartwright Township. She was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Whitfield) Wright. During her single years, Alva clerked in several stores in the Oshawa and Blackstock area. On September 25, 1925, she mar- ried Percy Arthur Van Camp. During their married life, 28 years were spent on a family farm south west of Blackstock. In 1953, they moved to the Village at 10 Scugog Street, where she spent her retirement years. During Alva's lifetime she had many interests. She was a charter member of Blackstock Women's Institute since it's inauguration in 1915, a member of Blackstock United Church, past-president of W.A. (Women's Association) and a honorary director of Cartwright Agricultural Society. Alva Ruth Van Camp is surviv- ed by her loving husband Percy. Dear mother of Merrill and his wife Norma, Keith and his wife Wilma, Aileen Van Camp and predeceased by an infant daughter.
