His term is for three years, en- ding December 1990. He was nominated by the Regional Municipality of Durham. The new Governor is a retired agricultural representative. From 1970 to 1987, he was Agricultural Representative for Durham West, and from 1960 to 1970 served in the same capacity for Prince Edward County. Previously he had served as Associate Agricultural Represen- tative for Victoria County and as Assistant Agricultural Represen- tative for Haldimand County. Puppet theatre rolls into Port Perrry The Painted Turtle Playhouse, a puppet theatre on wheels, is back and touring the Trent Severn Waterway and surroun- ding area for its fourth con- secutive summer. The playhouse, presented by the Kawartha Region Conservation Area in con- junction with Environment Canada - Parks, will again be put- ting on puppet shows to inform people about the importance of protecting our wetlands - a vital wildlife refuge. The puppet plays are very entertaining as well as infor- mative and will feature such characters as Hermit the frog, Ted the turtle, Roco the raccoon, Gretta goose, and the Smurfs to name but a few. There will also be games and activities for the children (including a special T- shirt colouring activity which will cost $5.00) and slides ahd movies for the adults in the evenings. Family Concerns Norm and Bernice Mairs at- tended an 80th birthday celebra- tion for brother-in-law George Windsor of Ballantrae, on Sun- day, July 24, with many family members and friends present to extend "best wishes' on this milestone in his life! Norm & Rob Mairs, Nestleton, attended the Mairs family reu- nion, held in Collingwood on Sun- day, July 31, with a fine number on hand for this annual get- together! Steve & Brenda Williams, Blind River, and family, were guests with his parents, Arn & Jean Williams of Nestleton, for a few days this past week! We'll really miss sister Norma Wilson of Duntroon, at the farm. While here, she really put a "special spark into the old farm'! She had to return home to resume her duties as church organist! Her daughter, June Carruthers of Stayner, picked her up on Sunday at the Cawker reunion. Last Thursday evening, Norma, Sam & Mabel Cawker, enjoyed din- ner and a visit with Dan & Ruth Girardi, daughters Paula & Nancy, and Ken Bragg of Bowmanville - a once a year occasion! Guest during the week with the Cawkers at the farm were Grant & Merna Cawker, daughter Cathy and Alan & Eleanor Cawker...all of Oshawa. Arthur & Carroll Cawker of Sudbury and Dr. Cheryl Cawker of Peterborough were Sunday guests. Best Wishes Our thoughts and prayers go out to John Hall...a patient in Oshawa Hospital for some time...and Ber- nice Mairs, at home, not feeling the best yet!
