Ken and Kelly Sweetman and daughters will be moving into the DeMerchant home east of the village. Cinday and Louis Denny, Nathan and Jenna of New Brunswick spent a couple of weeks visiting their aunt and un- cle Keith and Mary DeMerchant recently. Mary and Al Aston, Jeremy and Jonathan of Arlington are spen- ding some time visiting her mother Mrs. Helen Bradburn and other relatives and friends of both Mary and Al. On Sunday afternoon Eleanor Gibson was guest of honour at a bridal shower co-hosted by Louise Swain and June Degeer at Louise's home. After Eleanor opened the gifts from her neighbours and friends in atten- dance, she thanked everyone. The afternoon concluded with a tasty lunch and a social time. On Sunday the Lion's sixth an- nual pool and barbeque was held at the home of Ken and Dolly Lee. An excellent crowd of thirty four enjoyed a lawn dart tournament with the winners being declared as Chris Ewart and Doug Fetter. The cooks for the excellent barbecue were Blair Martyn and Ken Lee. Reta Berrill was guest of honour at her 80th birthday at the home of her son Bill and Marie Berrill of Courtice. A large number of family and friends at- tended among whom were her sister Marie and Cecil Gibson, Eleanor Gibson and her fiancee Wayne MacDonald. A large group of members of the Blackstock Youth group en- joyed Sunday at Canada's Wonderland. Two local couples Marjorie and Don Green and Bill and Jean Ferguson have celebrated their Silver wedding anniversaries with various family activities. Congratulations and best wishes. Women's Institute Report by Helen Bradburn On Wednesday, July 6th the Blackstock W.I. met at the love- ly home of Eileen McLaughlin on the patio with 4 visitors and 14 members present. After a social time and dessert, the meeting opened by singing the Ode and repeating the Collect. The minutes of the last meeting were read and the treasurer's report given. Roll call "What I do to Conserve the Environment" was answered. Many are taking part in the recycling programme. An invitation was extended to us by Nestleton W.I. to join them on Sept. 7 but owing to the fact that we have a speaker coming to our meeting that day, we will be unable to attend. big hit The 3rd annual Birdseye Centre Carving Show was a hit. carvings included everything from a three inch humming-bird to a full sized rocking horse to log cabins. It cer- tainly was excellent work. Ribbons were awarded in the following areas: The People's Choice: judge by the people in at- tendance, thank you people, a door prize for this was given to Chris Carle. 1st Joe Castellan - a pintail; 2nd Ed Bowler - a morn- ing dove; 3rd Frank and Isabelle Hedges - a blue jay; Honourable mention - Warren Cinge. On August 10 we will have a pic- nic and on August 17 we are responsible for the birthHay par- ty at the Port Perry Nursing Home. Pat Sleep gave a paper on en- vironment. In our world to-day we are living in a very dangerous environment. May Shortridge read the Man in the Glass and Jean Adams gave a reading A Friend. Our motto, One person's trash is another one's treasure. Meeting closed by singing O'Canada. Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Jean Trewin on the passing of her mother Mrs. Louise Wright after a lengthy stay in the Port Perry Nursing Home. Our thoughts also are extended to her two grand- sons, Lloyd and Earle Trewin. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday. The Great Britain Festival Days at Port Perry over the past weekend were a decided success. Many, many from here attended and greatly enjoyed the varied events over the weekend. V Con- gratulations to the organizers for such a well planned event. Euchre night Utica and Area News by Vera Brown Friday is euchre night in Utica Hall starting at 8 p.m. All are welcome. All children are invited to Vaca- tion Bible School at Epsom United Church, August 15 - 19 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. A piano player is needed for the first 15 minutes of each morning. Helpers are need- ed to teach the classes. Please call Denise at 579-3633 or Linda at 985-3475. Church service this week is at Utica at 11:15 a.m. Visitors to the area will be most welcome. Mr. and Mrs. George McCaffer- ty have returned to their home in Scotland with many good thoughts of the hospitality and friendliness of the people in our area. While dining with their family at the Galley Fish & Chips on Thursday evening, they were very surprised to be presented with a momento of the Port Perry Great Britain Festival Days from the owners as a reminder of their last stop before returning to their home on Friday. The weather- man also showed them some of the hottest weather that we have experienced in a good many years which is so different from what Scotland is experiencing.
