Special ac- tivities are planned for each day during the week and we'd like to encourage the public to join us in the fun. Monday, June 20th -- Hugga Bunch Day; Father's Day Bash - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21st -- Open House; Blood Pressure Clinic 2-4 .m. Wednesday, June 22nd -- Fun- draising Day (All proceeds to Alzheimers Society); Wheel-a- thon; fortune teller. Thursday, June 23rd -- Volunteer Appreciation Day; Wine & Cheese Party - 2 p.m. Friday, June 24th -- Western Day!! Over the week of June 6th to the 11th there were several activities going on such as Games Day (darts, ring toss, etc.), Vacation Quiz, Coffee Hour, cleaning the residents kitchen, preparing staff lunches, euchre, bingo, ice cream parlour wagon, movie and also a church service by the Presbyterian Church. On Friday, June 10th the kids from the Immaculate Conception School produced for us a delightful musical play called "The Trail of '98."" The residents really liked this first star rated play. As we headed into another busy week we started off Monday, June 13th with a bowling match. Top scorer was Joan Tuck with 106 points. Tuesday was our annual Nurs- ing Home BBQ which was held in 'especially busy Bobcaygeon this year. You couldn't have asked for nicer weather. As we sat out on the lawn we watched the boats go by on the Trent Canal and relaxed while listening to some great entertainment by a few bands. A good day was enjoyed by all 6 nur- sing homes that attended. What a great way to kick off Nursing Home Week!! For those who were unable to attend a sing-song was held for them in the afternoon. In the evening church was provided by the Port Perry United Church. The following day the residents gathered together for their mon- _ thly council meeting. Main topic was the awning for the patio. We have been informed that it has been ordered and should be in- stalled in a couple of weeks. A very big thank you to the Rotary Club. Also decided was to pur- chase a round picnic table along with other important ideas. Being such a warm day a few brave residents went off for a swim at Aldred's pool in Seagrave. A craft session was on Thurs- day with the result being various different items. To end the day there was a quiz. Special birthday wishes to our friends Mr. Leonard Allen (23) and Mrs. Annie Troop (25). Upcoming events after Nursing Home Week are Sunday service (26) - 2 p.m., Comfort Clothing Sale (29) and Supper Club (30). Be sure to keep an eye out on Wednesday June 22nd for a group of balloons that we will be releas- ing which will symbolize the start of our wheel-a-thon. "SPONSOR A RESIDENT TODAY" Ryan pulls a first (From page 12) where he also manages to pull off above-average grades. All this, and Ryan manages to spend at least a little time on kara- te each and every day. Whether it's memorizing Japanese terms or practising kata's, he is completely He'll have to stay dedicated if he wants to complete all the different stages of the black belt, and if he wants to fulfill his dream: "When I do get older and when I'm out of school, I'd like to start my own club." Despite their obvious pride in their son, the Ruskays are a little reticent about all the fuss, a little afraid of what other kids might say to Ryan at school. When he first signed up with karate he took a bit of ribbing, "they'd give me a lot of hey, there's the karate man," Ryan says. But he's handled it all pretty well, and other kids know not to try and push him into a fight. As Ron says, "You learn to fight so not to fight." "Hey Dad," Ryan interrupts, "that's from the Karate Kid." "So it is," Ron laughs. "Now I'm going around quoting mo- vies." But the phrase seems to fit the Ruskay philosophy towards kara- te. The whole family is absolutely enamoured of the sport. "It's like an addiction," Ron says. "It gets in your blood," adds Roscann. But it's Ryan who has the final word. Simply, "It's part of you." -- presents -- John Conlee - FRIDAY, JULY 8th - TWO SHOWS -- 8:30 PM & 8:00 PM ADMISSION: $18.00 per Person Tickets available at Barry's Variety 705-328-1336 BE aia at NE i te EE iO
