aR IGE nee I mA tr mt ii 20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 10, 1988 Local boy Craig makes bad, good The hottest ticket in town this month just might be the lineup of lovely ladies scheduled at Town Hall 1873 on Saturday, May 28: Mae West, Marlene Dietrich, Carol Channing, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Barbara Strei- sand, Eartha Kitt, Katherine Hepburn, to name a few. Mae's Dead, you say? Not as long as she lives through the talents of her protege, the inimitable Craig Russell -- a local boy made bad being so good. In fact, '"'outrageous' pretty well sums up Russell's talents, career, and new Cabaret show to be premiered at the Hall in a Gala benefit performance scheduled to raise funds for the belltower's facelift. A suitable show for a per- former of so many voices, shapes, costumes -- and faces. Craig is looking forward to per- forming close to his roots --- he was once a public school student at R.H. Cornish in the late '50's, and has relatives here whom he visits when time permits. But since those early days Craig has logg- ed many miles and many incar- nations -- in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, major Canadian cities, Germany, Holland, and other points in Europe, to cite a few; Las Vegas and Toronto's Im- perial Room at the Royal York are favorite locales. TANNING SALON However, it was a medium other than the stage which gave Russell his widest exposure and greatest accolades. He has been honoured as best actor at the Berlin Festival and at a Virgin Island Film Festival, as well as at home in Toronto. All this for be- ing simply "Outrageous" -- the award-winning film of the same name thrust him into Interna- tional acclaim. This cinematic success has been followed by re- cent release of "Outrageous II", also playing to good reviews. Russell returned from the Euro- pean stage especially to recreate his original role. So if you're inclined towards a titillating evening with tuneful Streisand, or raucous Channing, and all those other ladies, as well as Russell's most unusual accom- panist, set aside your inhibitions and come to the 'Outrageous Facelift Cabaret'. One hundred dollars purchases a table for eight; single tickets are priced at $15.00 -- available at Irwin Smith Music on queen. (Bar privileges extra). Get the gang together and head for Queen and Lilla on May 28th for some genuine star- gazing. and Don't be surprised if one of those ladies doesn't end the evening at your private table. S/he'll give autographs, too. It's such fun to be 'bad'.
