In the coming months I will be travelling to various Racetracks in Ontario and Quebec and this column will keep you informed of upcoming events, will bring you the results of the race weekends and will let you in on any in- side information and gossip from the garages, paddocks and pits. Obviously there has been no local racing to tell you about but I can update you on what a few of the predomi- nant drivers have been doing. You probably have heard that Ludwig Heimrath Jr. has secured an Indy ride with Hemelgarn Racing. Join- ing him on the team, but in the American Racing Series Division, will be Paul Tracy. The nineteen year old hot- shoe from Westhill has claimed success in everything from Formula 2000 to Can-Am cars and has kept busy over the Winter months racing 'Down Under" in the New Zealand Formula Pacific Series. He managed to score a pair of vic- tories and finished with a very respective third place in the overall standings. Another driver making big moves this year is Thunder Bay's John Jones. Terry DiFrancesco, Honda Michelin runner-up in 1987 and winner of the CASC Runoffs at Mont Tremblant last October, will move up to the Players Challenge Series for Camaros and Firebirds this year. Looking to grab a ride in the Rothmans Porsche Series for the upcoming season is last years Honda Champion, Normand Boyer. On a real local note, Blackstock's John Powell is go- ing to be a very busy man this season. His Esso Protec Rac- ing Team will be back this year, defending their Cham- pionship title in the Players Challenge Series. Robin Buck will lead the charge for the Port Perry based team. iE And if running his Players Challenge Team wasn't ih enough, the American Division of Powell Motorsports will 1 1. The 'King Of ¢ The Hill" Series for Showroom Stock Corvettes will see fifty | | of these cars competing in a ten event schedule for a million ii dollars in prize money. This series will make an ap- 1 pearance at Mosport on the Trans-Am weekend in HE September. ii But not only have the drivers and teams been busy over | the Winter. Molsons and Labatts have stopped their squabbling, and now Molsons is busy preparing to run the Grand Prix Of Canada in Montreal on June 12th as well as the Toron- to Molson Indy on the 17th of July. The Bruton Drugs trophy for the Second Schedule winners was present- Mosport Park has started its expansion plan.
