PORTHAITS BY STUDIOS -- PORT PERRY PLAZA -- Thursday, March 24th -- 10to 1 & 2 to 6 Friday, March 25th -- 10to 1 & 2 to 6 | Saturday, March 26th -- 10to 1 & 2to 5 | In the Bantam A final Oshawa St. Marks defeated The Port Perry Bantam squad took part in a Markham Major Bantam Tournament over the March Break and brought back a prestigious championship. Game 1 The first game of the tourna- ment saw Port Perry against a tough Markham team. The game started out fast with each team having chances to score but it wasn't until the 3rd period when Markham scored 2 goals to go up 2-0. A couple of minutes later, Port Perry thought it was time to get on the scoreboard and so Dan Sluggett rifled a shot into the net and closed the gap to 2-1. Jarett Harman and Ethan Lavereau drew the assists. Markham then came back again and scored to take a 3-1 lead. A frustrated Port Perry squad kept shooting the puck at the net and finally Brett Puckrin's shot from the point found its way in the net and narrowed the score to 3-2. Chris Ball and Sean Bradbury drew the assists. With 1 minute to go, Port pull- ed their goaltender in favour of an extra attacker. After a face-off deep in the Markham zone and a scramble in front of Markham's net Scott Porter managed to tip the puck in with 2 seconds left, after shots from Chris Ball and Jason Towns. The final score was a 3-3 tie. Game 2 In game 2, Port Perry and arch- rival Uxbridge met and played a slow but high scoring game. Port Perry was all over Uxbridge in all areas of the ice which resulted in an easy 6-1 win for Port. Scoring for Port Perry were: Chris Legere with 4 goals, Scott Porter, and Dan Sluggett. Assists were drawn by Steve Staniland (2), Sean Bradbury (2), Jarett Harman, Jamie Brown and Jason Towns. Game 3 Game 3 saw Port Perry up against a tough Pickering squad. The lead in this game switched back and forth but it was Port Perry who came up on top with a 6-5 win. Scoring for Port were: Jarett Harman with 4 goals, Scott Porter and Jan Heyes. Drawing assists were: Chris Ball (2), Sean Brad- bury (2), Jason Towns and Steve Staniland. Port Perry now advanced to the final. Game 4 The championship game was a nail biter. Port Perry met up with a Unionville team who had already beaten Port in a tourna- ment in Cobourg. Port Perry was fired up and ready to go. Hockey (From page 29) Scott Wylie and Greg Kyle 1 goal and 1 assist each, Adam Danter 1 goal and 2 assists, Herb Hatch 2 assists, and Brad Bricknell, Rob Vanuden and Doug Adams 1 assist each. Scoring for I.G.A. were Mark Andrews 2 goals, Neil Mark 1 goal and 2 assists, Brian Van Dam 2 assists, Robin Hancock 1 goal and 1 assist, and Daryl Alexander and Peter Brock 1 assist each. Best Efforts were awarded to Herb Hatch of Frank's and Mark Andrews of 1.G.A. The Bantam '"A" Champion- ship was won by Oshawa St. Mark's in a 6-0 victory over Oshawa Simcoe Street. St. Mark's Vic Alves scored a hat-trick and won a Best Effort award. Mike Barbeaw picked up the Best Effort for Simcoe Street. Port Perry got on the board first when Chris Legere passed to Ethan Lavereau behind the net and Ethan centered the puck to Jan Heyes who slapped the puck into the cage. Two minutes later it was Chris Ball who found a weak spot on Unionville's goaltender and popped the puck in for a 2-0 lead. Unionville then got 2 goals and tied it up early in the 2nd period. Port Perry then got back on the board when Ethan Lavereau hit Brett Puckrin with a perfect pass who in turn saw Jarett Harman across the ice. Jarett took the puck in to the top of the face-off circle and lofted a pass in the slot area where Brett Puckrin tipped it home for a 3-2 lead. The third period was a tight checking period but Jarett Har- man found the net after a perfect pass from Scott Porter. This made the score 4-2. Unionville followed with 1 goal but it wasn't enough to knock the Port Perry squad off the block. Port Perry wins the champion- ship 4-3. Port Bantams hit for gold This tournament saw 2 goaltenders playing spectacular. Paul Kett and Jamie Brown were no doubt a key reason why Port Perry took home the champion- ship. Paul Kett had a lightening fast glove hand and Jamie Brown had his strong and quick pad saves. Well done guys! The Port Perry squad played 4 great games against "AA" cen- tres and the players who "show- ed" up and "wanted" to play should be congratulated. The Port Perry Bantams en- joyed a fun year, enjoying success in many games. The team would like to thank the players who stuck with the team through thick and thin and also 5 great coaches: Todd Wilbur, Lee Wilbur, Hillis Wilbur, Steve Durham and Derek Dexter. The team enjoyed and ap- preciated your spirit and ideas throughout the year. A special thanks also goes out to the mothers who sat at the door of Port's home games and took admission fees and also to fans who supported the team in every game. Larocque zaps Blanchard boys Game one was mostly a one sid- ed event in which Larocque Elec- tric defeated Blanchard's Supply Co. 5-2. Leading the way for Larocque were Carl Fitzgerald 2 goals, Bruce Smith 2 goals, and Dave Milton one. Adding assists were Ray Zaparanuik 2, Ed Olsen 2, Tim Kane, and Rick Brooker 1 each. Scorers for Blanchards were Dan Horner from Glen Hudson and Dennis Sims, and Dave Roth from Rod Jones. The second game of the day saw Sportsland brought back downto earthas J & D Carpentry skated to an easy 8-1 victory. Capitalizing for J & D were Doug Bronson 2 goals, 1 assist, Bob Tarbotton 1 goal 2 assists, Ken Nightingale 1 goal, 2 assists, Joe Curran 1 goal, 1 assist, Wayne Norton 1 goal, 1 assist, George Gladish 1 goal, 1 assist, Dennis Lycett 1 goal, and Sandy Garvock 1 assist. The lone marker for Sportsland was Dale Bronson from "Doc" Thomson and Mark Jobb. Game three was a hard fought game which was tied 1-1 after 2 periods but Dennis Anderson's pulled ahead and went on to win by a 4-1 score over Norton's Home Improvements. Scoring for Anderson's were Greg Mills 1 goal, 1 assist, Larry Courtice and Sean Kenny, and Dave Bourgeois each with one goal. Helping out were Bill Bridge 2 assists, Bruce Gracie, Kelly Lee, and Reg Templeman 1 a piece. The lone marker for Nortons was Rob Evans from Bill Van- Camp and Bob Lee. The final game was another close one going into the third period in which Compton Cable T.V. defeated Crandell's River- boat 5-3. Counting for Compton were Brad Hurst 2 goals, Larry Page 1 goal, 1 assist, Peter Lane 1 goal, 1 assist, and Wayne Fox 1 goal. Adding assists were John Foster 2, John Robertson and Rick Olaisen 1 a piece. Scoring for Crandells were Richie LeFort 2 goals, 1 assist'and Mike Driscoll one goal.
