The Allen Siding Products Tweens travelled to Campbellford & Warsaw forthe Regionals on March 11, 12 and 13. The first game against Ajax was one of the best displays of Ringette perform- ed by the Tweens this year. Port checked Ajax closely and their passing was right on target. The girls pulled ahead to a 3-2 score with 2 seconds left in the first period. During the second period, the girls kept up the quick pace and they seemed to wear Ajax down to come out of the game with a lead of 8-5. ' Points given in this game were to Christine Mueller 4 goals, 1 assist, Valerie Payne 2 goals, 1 assist, Danielle Cooper 1 goal, 1 assist, Nicki Beare 2 assists, Man- dy Porter 1 goal and Kelly Men- zies 1 assist. The next morning Port met En- nismore. Hats off to the En- nismore team for giving their best effort but they weren't strong con- tenders in this tournament. It was necessary to score as many goals as possible in case of a tie. Getting points in this 15-2 win were Christine Mueller 6 goals, 2 assists, Valerie Payne 4 goals, Danielle Cooper 1 goal, 3 assists, Kendra McCrae 2 goals, Lori Buscher and Mandy Porter each with 1 goal, 1 assist, Nicki Beare and Kelly Menzies each with 2 assists. At this point in the tournament, the tide began to change and although Port played extremely well, they came out on the short end of an 8-6 score against Whitby. Scoring for this game were Christine Mueller 5 goals, Danielle Cooper 4 assists, Mandy Porter 1 goal, 2 assists, Valerie ' Good effort by Payne and Lori Buscher 1 assist each. For the final game Port met Woodville. After a strong start scoring the first goal of the game, they just weren't playing their best until the last five minutes when the girls came on with strong passing and skating, scor- ing 3 goals in the last 3 minutes. Most of the girls felt that with 5 more minutes they would of been able to pull off a victory, but the final score stood at 10-8 for Woodville. Scoring against Woodville were Valerie Payne, Danielle Cooper, Nicki Beare and Christine Mueller with 2 goals each. Assisting were Nicki Beare with 5 assists, Christine Mueller and Kelly Menzies with 3 each, and Danielle Cooper, Lori Buscher and Valerie Payne with 1 each. These results brought us to a three way tie with Ajax and Whit- by for second place. But by ad- ding points for and against and dividing by goals against, a small margin sent Ajax to the finals with Woodville. Special mention must be made for the effort of the defence. They were definitely factors in keeping us strong -contenders in this tournament. Congratulations to Kelly Men- zies, Laurel Menzies and Nicki Beare for a job well done as well as Mandy Porter who played defence in the final game. The efforts of Bristol Sleep in net throughout the year were ap- preciated by all. The Tweens would also like to send a special thank you to Allens Siding Products for so generous- ly sponsoring the team another year. The new sweaters were worn proudly. Pineridge Atoms reach the semis The Pineridge Sports Atom No. 2 team made it to the champion- ship semi-finals in the Goulding Park Atom Pee Wee Tournament in Toronto on the weekend. In Port's first game they blew away the Queensway Canadians 9-1. This game was a team effort game all the way as evident on the scoring sheet. All but one player (excluding goalies) had his number on the sheet but it wasn't for his lack of effort. Kent Taylor instigated many of the plays that resulted in goals. Nice work Kent. Goalscorers in this game all with 1 were: Kirk Swain, Ian Shrigley, Matt Morris, Billy Zaparanuik, Richie Tripp, Daryl Bourgeois, Ian McCready, Graham Holt and Ryan Williams. Assists in this game went to: Matt Morris and Ricky Olaisen 2 each and Billy Zaparanuik, Richie Tripp, Ian McCready, Graham Holt, Craig Laird and Jeff Vernon 1 each. In the second game Port lost to the North York Knights of Colum- bus 5-3. The K of C scored first but Port's Ryan Williams assisted by Ian Shrigley and Jeff Vernon soon tied the score up. The K of C then went on to score 3 more goals and it looked rather hopeless for Port at that time. Suddenly, Port got their second wind and started their attack. With less than 5 minutes left in the game the team came alive and on a beautiful set up pass from Ricky Olaisen and Graham Holt, Richie Tripp popped it in the net. 17 seconds later the fast moving line of Daryl Bourgeois and Matt Mor- ris assisted Ian Shrigley in scor- ing Port's next goal. In the hopes of tying up the game Port's goalie was pulled but unfortunately on a long shot by the K of C they scored an empty net goal eliminating Port from the tournament. Goaltenders James Paterson and Scot Prechitko were hot bet- ween the pipes this weekend. Special mention to coach Mike Prechitko from the parents for finally getting a tournament next Sook to a shopping mall. "Charge t!
