Nestleton-Caesarea News We're very proud of three young Nestleton girls who did well at the 31st Sunderland Lions Club Mu- sical Festival during, this past week. As follows: 9 yéar old Ka- tie Mairs..a grade 3 student, won Ist in her class. Nine year old Kimberly Headon, a first year stu- dent, also won 1st in her class. Six year old Stacey Headon, in the beginners class, came in 3rd out of 22 contestants. Our warmest congratulations to the girls! Sev- eral other artists from Nestleton, although not winners, did excepti- nally well with their selections. Our best to them as well. . The festival features young art- ists from the townships of Eldon, Mariposa, Uxbridge, Scugog, Brock and the former Georgina. The festival continues until Feb- ruary 26. Coming up next well be the vocal contestants. Class winners will give special performances at the Stars of the by Mabel Cawker r'estival concerts at the Sunderland Town Hall, March 1 to 3. BLACKSTOCK AND DISTRICT LIONS CLUB The Lions Public Speaking Contest -- Grades 6,7,&8 will be held this Wednesday night in the old Town Hall in Blackstock at 8 p.m. We trust for a good atten- dance for this important event. Very sorry Dr. Howard Gauthier was involved in a car accident and 1s presently in Oshawa Hosptial. The Lions Club is looking for a speedy recovery so chin up Ho- ward....you'll be out of hospital soon now! All your friends are pulling for you. FAMILY NEWS Cousin Elva Fleury of Brock- ville, is spending a couple of weeks visitng with her cousin Marion Hall of Williams Point and Port Perry. Marion Cawker of Manchester, Paul Turner, a grade 11 Bae wwe room studen t at Port Perry High was the winner of a poster contest for the Kawartha Conservation Authority. Paul's poster warns of the danger of thin ice and swollen streams at this time of year. The poster will be on display throughout the Kawartha watershed. For his efforts, Paul received a cash prize of $30 which was presented to him last week by Denise Lauzon, information co-ordinator for the Kawartha Authority. rrr em------------------ MORE we are moving ... UNIT MEETS The Evening Uni of the Nestle- ton U.C.W. met at the lovely home of Chris Davis, Scugog Point Rd., with 10 present. Leader Regenia Walker brought the meet- ing to order with a cordial wel- come to all present. The "roll call" was answered by a favourite love story or poem...which brought forth many interesting an- swers. Minutes were approved as read and the Treasurer's statement giv- en. Arlene Malcolm brought in a suggestion, to have the duct work cleaned. The new organ is almost paid for, with many generous do- nations. The Evening Unit is sponsoring a Foster Child. Chris Davis is reported back from "World Vision" and Arlene Mal- colm reported on Canada Save the Children, the Unit will make a de- cision at the March meeting. Fi- nal arrangements were made for - the Junior Farmer's Banquet to be held on Feb. 13. Chris kindly vol- unteered to look after the Church Garden this Spring. The timely worship period enti- .. tled "Advice for Lent" and "Let's Think About Love" was present- ed by Barb Weir...after many in- spiring thoughts she closed with a meaningful Prayer. ! The next meeting will be held March 9, and members are having a tour of Paula Lishman's Furs in Blackstock. To top off the even- ing Chris Davis had a viewing of her work re- Quilting -- many ex- cellent works of art were shown. Say! that gal is a real expert. Mrs. Neta Fish of Nestleton, at- tended the Circus with the Blackstock Scnior Citizens, on Thursday morning held in the Ma- ple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, and re- ports a very interesting and enjoy- able day...with lunch on the way home. Jim and Audrey Leishman and son William, were dinner guests with Mother Neta Fish on Sunday cvening, and had an enjoyable time catching up on family news. Yours truly had a lovely visit with a former resident of Nestle- ton on Saturday, Olive Heaslip who now resides in Port Perry Villa. The Sam Cawkers of Scu- gog Point Rd., had an interesting chat with Russell and Edda Bow- man on Sunday morning. SYMPATHY EXTENDED Very shocked to learn of the sudden death of Ronald Burr....a former well known resident of Caesarea, who recently had moved to a small farm at Oakwood, a dream Ron had for some time to operate a farm. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Doris of Oakwood and sister Madeline Ar- not of Caesarea, and many other relatives. Our deepest sympathy from this area to the Burr family.
