The red and white of the Port Perry Bantams looked mean and aggressive but still a hint of discipline shining through when Port took to the ice. The boys had come to play, because if they lost it would be a long summer waiting ahead. It was well into the first period when Jason Towns stopped the puck at the blue line arfd let go a rifling shot which found its way to the back of the net to give Port a 1-0 lead. Scott Porter and John Collins drew the assists. There was a lapse of scoring un- til the 2nd period when Chris Legere dug the puck out of the corner and passed back to Brett Puckrin who fired a low shot at the net and Jan Heyes was there to deflect it in for a 2-0 lead. .A few minutes later, it was Jan Heyes again who-quarter-backed the prettiest play of the game when he and Chris Legere set up Chris Ball in the slot and the big man fired her home for a 3-0 lead. After the ice was flooded for the 3rd period, Port Perry kept play- ing their own style of hockey but let up for a second when Stouff- ville scored on a power-play to make the score 3-1. With a minute and a bit left in the game Stouffville pulled their goaltender in favour of an extra attacker but failed to score a goal and Port took the game with a 3rd score. Special mention goes to goaltender Jamie Brown who played spectacular between the pipes. : ' Sean Bradbury, Brian Appleby and Jarett Harman played a great defensive game to help the Port Bantams chalk up the vic- tory. The team played very well together and all members gave a strong effort. Port Perry now plays a best of five series with Cobourg beginn- ing in Cobourg on Tuesday February 23, game time is 7:00. Port Perry then hosts Game No. 2 of the series on Wednesday February 24, game time is 9:30. Coach Wilhur(s) has told his - team that they must play an ag- gressive but disciplined game which means Port Perry must stay out of the penalty box to give them a better chance of winning and it looks as if his boys are go- ing to listen to him. So come out and support Minor Hockey and cheer the Port Perry Bantams to victory. Close match Bruton's I.D.A. Petites hosted a game Sunday February 21 against Markham. Markham dominated the play for the first five minutes as they bombarded Port with a lot of shots. Tracy Pelow, our goaltender, held Port in the game with some exceptional goaltending. Port managed to get their of- fence together at 9:56 of the first period when Kim Poppleton set up Shannon Fox to score the first goal of the game. Markham rallied with a goal at 7:36 to tie the game 1-1. The se- cond period.was a more balanc- ed game as the play was carried end to end. Markham registered their se- cond goa' at 4:40 of the second period to take the lead and win the game 2-1.
