NOVICE Port Perry Printing -- 5 David's Hairstyling -- 2 Port Perry Printing built up a. 3-0 lead during the first two periods of this game, and then coasted home to a 5-2 victory. Derek Leeming fired in 3 goals to lead the way for the Printers, with Bobbie Cracknell and Troy Camp- bell getting singles. Adam Jones and Danny Robin- son both earned a pair of assists. For David's, Stephen Elliot and Shane Norton each had a goal and an assist. Van Camp Contracting -- 3 Re/Max Realty -- 2 After falling behind 2-0, the Van Camp squad came back strongly to eke out a 3-2 victory with a pair of goals in the final period. In other news, Paul Savage's rink of vice Ed Werenich, second Graeme McCarrel and lead Neil Harrison out-duelled Russ Howard to win the Ontario Curl- ing Championship and represent Ontario at the Labatt Brier being held at Chicoutimi, Quebec in March. Red Wings nip the Giants 9-8 With two quick goals by Mike Tripp and Wade Sheedy in the first minutes of floor hockey ac- tion, the Red Wings were able to stay ahead of the Green Giants to beat them by the score of 9-8. For the Red Wings, Blair Prechitko and Mike Hepburn scored two goals each while Sean Sauter, Matthew Coyne and Kevin Stewart assisted with one goal each. In goal, Kevin Stewart . and Mike Tripp played great, making save after save when the Green Giants applied pressure to get back into the game. For the Green Giants, Kevin Pearce scored a hat trick with Jamie Heayns picking up 2 goals while Andrew Jones, Louis Whit- field and John Hall made it close by scoring one goal each. After a shakey start, the goaltenders Pat Smith, Todd Stewart and Andrew Jones made some good saves to keep this game close. In a well played intermediate game, the Scugog Rockets down- ed the Shooting Stars by a score of 6-4. Ryan Duff scored two goals in the first period for the Rockets while his team-mates Calvin Hammett notched one. The Shooting Stars answered with two goals of their own, both scored by Doug Short. Mark Suppelsa scored the only goal of the second period to give the Rockets a 4-2 lead. The Shooting Stars came back in the third period to tie the game at 4 to 4 on goals by Matt Koetje and Jeff Whitfield. But with only a couple of minutes left on the clock, Mark Suppelsa and Dennis Goodman scored to give the Scugog Rockets a very close 6-4 victory. Playing well for the Rockets on defence were Matt " Youman and Andrew Jacobsen while 'up front Jeff Vandenby, Aaron Stillen and Alex Bedell all gave it their best. Playing a fine game for the Shooting Stars were Mark Brown, David Verschuuren Spenser Bedell, Adam Jacobson and Jamie Irvine. 5 p.m. Lewis vs. Scugog 5:55 p.m. Whitby vs. Tripp then Sat. (20th), 2:30 Lions vs. Whitby 3:35 Tripp vs. Lewis PEE WEE On Wed. evening Consumer's Gas took on Larocque Electric in an exciting game for the Con- sumer's fans as they came out the victors in a 3-1 game. Mike Olaisen started the scoring for Consumer's, taking a nice pass from Ross Staiton and using his hard slap-shot, banged it past Larocques Mike Tripp. Shaw Larocque had a very strong game both defensively and offensively scoring Larocques's only goal on a nice end to end rush. Con- sumer's Mike Olaisen scored his second goal and was assisted by Ross Staiton and Kevin Brown, Louis Whitfield finished the scor- ing for Consumer's on a blazing wrist shot from the point and Ryan Ridgeway drew the assist. Andrew Pereman played very well between the pipes for Consumers. The first game of the Sat. Feb. 13th brought Emiel's and Con- sumer's to the ice. This game was Emiel's all the way ending in a 5-0 victory. Blair Beveridge led the scoring for Emiel's with two goals and 1 assist, Chad Venning 1 goal and 1 assist, Aron Royle 1 goal and 1 assist and last Darrin Hope 1 goal and 1 assist. Emiel's show- ed many passing plays and played very well as a team, with Gred Rankin in net adding to their strength. Steve Gascoyne, Jason Eenling and Ryan Ridgeway all gave their team hard working efforts. The second game of the morn- ing was a real cliff hanger to the very last buzzer. Scala Auto Wreckers and Big '"V" Drug Store had a real battle on their hands. Todd Smart started the scoring with quick speed and tricky stick work and Scott Wylie picked up the assist on this one. Rick Hut- chinson scored Scala's tying goal from a scramble in front of Gar- field LeFort. Scott Foster drew the assist on this one. Scala's Scott Foster gave his team the lead on the next goal assisted by Daryl Slack. Phil Edgar scored to tie the game once more and Ryan Picard picked up the assist. Scala's Mike Williams scored the go-ahead goal in the second and was assisted by Daryl Slack for Scala. It looked like Scala had this one wrapped up with only 10 seconds remaining in the third. Big "Vv" pulled their goalie adding an ex- tra attacker. Scott Wylie had determination in his mind and dug deep score Big "V"s tying goal to end this close game 3-3. Playoffs for the Pee Wee H.L. League on Feb. 22nd. A Round Robin system will be played with the two top teams playing off in a 1 game final on March 26. All five teams have a good chance to finish on top if they give their best effort in each game. BANTAM Swamp -- 3 Emmerson -- 1 Swamp's winning streak ex- tended to five games with a 3-1 win over Emmerson. Swamp's Daryl Dutkewich opened the scor- ing at the 11:22 of the first period when Shawn MacDonald assisted. There was no scoring until the 13:30 of the second, when Emmer- son tied the game on a goal from Sam Shewan on a nice set-up from Vince Criscione. Swamp took the lead at the 11:18 mark of the se- cond period when Mike Bardeleben was able to put the puck behind Emmerson's goaltender Robert Ashton and assisting was Daryl Dutkewich PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 16, 1988 -- 25 Minor Hockey House League results and Ed Toffan. Both teams continued to work hard and at the 11:29 of the third period, Swamp's Daryl Dutkewich scored unassisted to make the score 3-1. Emmerson continued to fire the puck but were unable to get the puck behind Swamp's goalie Noel Lovering and combined with defensive playing, Swamp held on to win this game. Frank -- 5 IGA -- 4 IGA took an early lead over Frank when Neil Mark opened the scoring and Peter Brock notched their scored goal with Richard Stapleton and Neil Mark along with John Woodward assistiang. Frank decided they could score and fired the next two goals behind IGA's goaltender Brian McGill and by the 1:32 the first game was 2-2. Scoring for Frank was Michael Butt and Doug Adams and assisting were Brad Bricknell, Michael Butt and Kevin Buscher. IGA decided they could score the next two goals, when they beat Derek Carter and by the 8:07 of the second period, they were up 4-2. Scoring for IGA. was Peter Brock and Mark Andrew and assisting was Neil Mark. Both teams continued with some fine team passing and with only 1:22 left in the second period, Frank's Kevin Buscher scored unassisted to make the score 3-4. At the 9:50 of the third, Frank tied the game when Doug Adams combined with Michael Butt to make the score 4-3. Frank's Rob Vanuden scored the winning goal at the 5:02 of the third and assisting was Greg Kyle and Brad Bricknell. Although IGA pressed to get the equalizer, they were unable to put the puck behind Frank's goaltender Derek Carter and time ran out with Frank winnin this game by one goal.
