Ts 12 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 2, 1988 Vacationers return home to warm weather Blackstock and Arve News by Joyce Kelly Walter & Audrey Wright on Sun- day returned home from an en- joyable two week vacation in Bar- bados. Bet they were surprised with the mild weather when they returned. On the weekend a group of mar- ried couples enjoyed a weekend of skiing and other activities at Windemere. Those attending were Jim & Barb Byers, Doug & Sherry Metcalfe, Floyd & Nancy Kyte, Bob & Linda Kyte, Ron & Norma Smith, David & Donna Kyte, Roy & Catherine Corden, Lawrence & Lin- da McLaughlin, Ron & Mary Firth, George & Sharon Wilson, Denzil & Tallya Moore. Many grandparents were busy looking after the various families. While the weather was wet for the latter part of the weekend and the excellent indoor facilities enjoyed, skiing was excellent before the rain. Ted & Marg Kemp, Don & Louise Swain & families were away for a weekend of downhill skiing. They too enjoyed their short holiday. Murray & Aileen Byers, Frank & - Muriel Hoskin travelled to Oakville one day last week to visit with their sister Mrs. Hazel Belyea. On Sunday morning, members of the Centennial Worship Committee conducted worship service at the United Church. It was pointed out that the present building was dedicated 100 years ago on Jan. 24th. Joan Grove capably carried out the duties of the organist. Frances Grove sang a beautiful solo, Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring. Those par- ticipating in the service on the theme of Good Samaritan were Glenn Larmer, Aileen Van Camp, Thelma Wright, David Larmer, Kevin Gibson & Joyce Kelly. Next week, a group from Nestleton United will be conducting services at both churches. A warm welcome back to Blackstock is extended to Carrie Utica by Vera Brown Congratulations to Dave & Jane Tracey on the arrival of baby Russell David born on January 29th, a brother for Richard. In Church news this week: The Sunday Service to be held in Utica and it will be at the usual time of 11:15 a.m. Following the service they will hold the Annual Congrega- tional meeting. Sunday School will be held at the same time. The U.C.W. will hold their February meeting on Tuesday afternoon 1 p.m., Feb. 9th, the place to be determined later. A reminder to the ladies that roll call should be answered with the donation of baby bonnets so if anyone (like myself) hasn't started yet, well there isn't much time left. Looking ahead to Feb. 20th the Sunday School's intermediate class are holding a "Laugh-in Laugh-out" variety night and 'if anyone. has anything in the way of talent that they wish to contribute, please con- tact Nancy Hill. Coming Events in Utica Hall -- this Friday at 8 p.m. is euchre night starting at 8 p.m. and all are welcome. This Sunday at 2 p.m. the Hall Board are holding their annual meeting and any interested persons in the community are welcome to at- tend, meet your local Hall Board and take part in the meeting. Umphrey & Rob who have moved into the former Glenn McCoy home beside the Post Office. It is hard to believe that tim has passed so quickly that the Fletcher Curling Bonspiel will be held on this Sat. Feb. 6th at the local arena. There may be a few openings left so if you are interested, make plans very quickly. 'Bob & Joyce Fraser & Kent of Agincourt visited Mrs. Jean Mahaf- fy on Sunday. So glad to learn that Mrs. Mabel Cawker is expecting to be released from Port Perry Hospital this week. TH ITER TINIE. Take care of yourself in your days of recuperation, Mabel. Michelle Adams spent several days in Port Perry Hospital recovering from a badly injured ankle. She too will be spending con- siderable time of recuperation. Our thoughts are with you. For crops produced in 1987, this special assistance as been increased to $1.1 billion. Also increased is the number of eligible crops. Farmers who applied for a payment under the Special Canadian Grains Program last year should have already received applications in the mail.
