I took a spectacular fall while serving gas and spent the week having my skeletal structure put back into semblance of human shape. It looks like I'm in for a few weeks of the same until everything is in line once again. Bad news for the playgroup - most of the kids are down with chicken pox and the Thursday group has been cancelled indefinitely until fur- ther notice. Mrs. Dalby brought in the report from the January meeting of the Columbus United Church Women held on January 13. This Wednesday gathering was proceeded by a dessert luncheon. Sounds like a delicious way to start a meeting. Maybe this could be passed on to those high-powered board rooms, people would probably be in a much better mood after eating the delicious delicacies that these women produce from their kitchens. Anyhow, this meeting went well and here is Mrs. Dalby's report. "The January meeting of the Col- umbus United Church Women was held on Wednesday, January 13th, proceeded by a dessert luncheon. The worship was given by Willie Nesbitt and Margaret Simpson. Annual reports showed a very busy year. Plans were made for the Annual Spring Bazaar and Tea to be held on Wednesday, May 4th. Mrs. Margaret Ann Lamb, Presi- dent of Oshawa Presbytery install- ed the officers for 1988. Honourary President - Suzanne Rutherford, Past President - Willie Nesbitt, President - Margaret Simp- son, Secretary - Edyth Webber, Assistant Secretary - Verna Hayes, Corresponding Secretary - Gladys Dalby, Treasurer - Helen Reaman, Assistant Treasurer - Evelyn Holli- day, Programmes - Earline Beath and Beryl Scott, Social - Phylis Sobil and Mabel Lehane, Good Cheer - Earline Beath and Margaret Simp- son, Cards - Evelyn Holliday, Representative on Manse Commit- tee - Maria Davey, Representative to Official Board - Beryl Scott, Church Candles - Willie Nesbitt, Members were reminded to bring sandwiches and pickles for the An- nual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, January 31 following the Church Service. The February Meeting will be a work meeting to be held on February 10, commencing at 11 AM. Here is an update on the four generations gathering I mentioned before. This past Christmas great- grandparents, William and Robina Nesbitt, celebrated many years of love when their daughter, Carol Naylor (nee Nesbitt) arrived from Whitehorse in the Yukon Territories and her daughter, Cynthia Cardenas, arrived from Lublock, Texas, with her two daughters, Carol Marie and Camille Cardenas. It was the first time in four years that Carol and Cynthia have seen each other. A great occasion for all. There is one set of great- grandparents that don't get much of a chance to spoil their great- granchildren so I bet they have a tendency to go overboard when they see them. Now I can relax for the next year or so. Of course, since everything always happens at once, the dryer lost its heating element, the hot water heater sprung a leak and the washer timer went. So I just sat and polished and watched the continuing parade of service men , come and go, grunting and sweating under various burdens while the dogs growled a chorus of threats in accompaniment.
