Ty The Pineridge Sports Atom No. 2 team started their league playoffs with a tie in Newcastle Wed. night and a win in Port Perry Sat. night giving them 3 points so far in their 12 game round robin series. On Wed. night Newcastle scored first and carried that lead into the second period. ' Newcastle scored again early in the second period but on a good pass from Greg Thompson, Jeff Vernon - fired the puck from the blue line through the goalies legs putting Port on the board. In the last minute of play in the se- cond period after a scramble in front of the net. Ricky Olaisen pop- ped the puck into the net and tied the game up. Assists went to Graham Holt and Richie Tripp. There was no scoring in the third period. The team as a whole played a super'game but special mention to Graham Holt and Ian Shrigley who were standouts on the ice tonight. On Sat. night Port faced the team from Bewdley and came out vic- torious 3-0. A great pass from Matt Morris sent Port into a 3 man breakaway with Ricky Olaisen scoring the goal. As the game wore on Port Perry kept forcing' the play. Billy Zaparanuik made a nice move in his own end passing the puck to Ricky Olaisen giving him his second breakaway. After a small adjust- ment to his glove Ricky drew the goaltender out of his net to score Ports second goal. Bewdley tried hard to score in the final minutes of the game but Billy Zaparanuik made another beautiful pass to an open man, Craig Laird and Craig on Ports third breakaway scored Ports third goal ending the game 3-0 for us. Special mention to Scot Prechitko and James Paterson for their many Local curling report Port Perry Curling Club hosted the Business Women's Trophy com- + petition this past weekend. The Port Perry team of Kelly Evans, Louise Haugen, Wendy Bentley and Mary VanSchaik lost their opening game - on Friday hight but rebounded to make it to the B side final. Unfor- tunately, they were eliminated from further play, losing the game on a measure. At the 0.C.A. Mixed Competition in Annandale, Scott Howey's team of Debbie VanCamp, Dave: Roth, and Lee-ann Roth won two and lost two while Don Beaton's team of Laurel Griffen, Ken Jeffrey and Karen Parish were eliminated after three games. The White Rose Nursery Competi- tion League ended the season last Thursday with Port Perry's team of Scott Howey, Dave Roth, Glen James, and Ken Jeffrey coming away as the runner-up. Beating Brian Suddard of Oshawa in the semi-final but lost a close game to Uxbridge's Gary Grant in the final. Ron Parish, curling with Ux- bridge's Gary Grant in the Provin- cial Farmers Championship at Wallaceburg on the weekend, came . away with a 3-2 record after being ousted on Saturday night from the double-knockout competition. This coming weekend the Scott Howey rink will be travelling to Orillia for the Labatt Challenge Round. Also this weekend is the Utica Farm Equipment Bonspiel at the Curling Club. 4 pop. saves and also to Graham Holt for a very strongly played game. Also thanks to Pineridge Sports for the On Sunday Port played an exhibi- tion game in East Gwillimbury and although they lost they played a strong game even though they were missing 4 players. East Gwillimbury took the lead and scored a second goal before Port finally got one.
