The first schedule of the Junior Curling program came to a thrilling conclusion last week as the rink skipped by Carrie Fielding (bottom photo) edged the rink skipped by her sister Tania Fielding (top photo) on the final rock in the final end. PORT PERRY WADO KAI KARATE Masters Broomball tourney The PPBA was represented this past weekend at the annual Masters tour in Toronto by Blackstock Mer- chants and B & L Donuts. Blackstock returned home the 'B' division victors while B & L went out in the 'B' semi-final courtesy of Blackstock. Both teams started out Friday night and both teams suffered a loss: B & L 1-0 to O'Tooles and Blackstock 3-2 in overtime to - D'Ambrosia. Wayne McGuigan tallied both Merchant goals with Steve Hawes, Exciting ~ The Junior Curling program, in- volving 41 mixed teams from Port Perry High School and R.H. Cor- nish, brought its first schedule to an end on January 19. The final game pitted two sisters Carrie and Tania Fielding against each other in a storybook finish that went down to the final stone in this exciting six-end championship game. There will not be a break in this Junior program until February 1, when the teams will be re-shuffled. These 164 keen young curlers will then battle it out each week until mid-March when the second round of playoffs get underway. The program will have its grand finale during the March Break with the annual Mudcat Spiel, a fun-filled day of competitive curling with prizes for all. The popularity of Junior Curling is at an all-time high in Port Perry this year, and that is good news for the future of the sport here.
