Clear as mud Mike Peleikis is just one of many residents on Carnegie Beach Road who are fed up with the poor state of repair on the road. To prove his point, Mr. Peleikis wrote a simple message ("I live on Carnegie Beach Rd!") on the dirt- encrusted side of his car. The car was parked on the road, and the mud was splashed up by other vehicles passing by. Last week, Scugog 'Township Councillors assured more than 50 angry Carnegie Beach taxpayers that the road repairs will be a high priority at budget time. NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE | i= Fond memories Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader Thursday morning six ladies met at the mobile home of Mrs. Marion Carter for the purpose of sorting out and discarding bills and papers per- taining to the "Head" U.C.W. and imagine the accumulation and storage this had caused for someone. We didn't realize it could rouse so much interest and fond memories of the past as we saw the names of peo- ple who had laboured till their ser- vice on earth was finished. Again we reviewed the work put on the "Head Memorial Church" in preparation for its 3-day Centennial celebration in 1960 and the Restoration of the cemetery and finally leading up to the satisfactory takeover by the museum. Past money making projects revised memories of saving 1942 pennies, craft school, Halloween parties, crokinole parties, mud cat suppers, chicken barbecues, turkey suppers when turkeys were 39 cents a lb. This seems like a good month for birthday greetings to our friends in their 80's. Therefore, we want to be included in the many who have sent best wishes to Rev. Chas. Clarke of Prince Albert. Rev. Clarke has serv- ed our charge and this area faithful- ly for many years. Then there is that jolly John Sweetman of the Island who is just a little bit ahead of Rev. Clarke by celebrating his 87th birthday on Fri- day, Jan. 22. I always loved to hear his anecdotes and remember how he would sit up in bed to tell another funny story that came to mind. He tells me he was born the same day Queen Victoria died. I know he has a super memory but doubt if he could remember that one. Next of course is Mrs. Daisy Wylie, wife of the late Rev. Geo. Wylie who celebrated her 80th on the last day of Jan. There must be others this month. Sorry I don't know about them. Re: Island people still in hoslpital -- after 2 months, Mrs: John Edgar seems to be getting more strength and improvement following her in- ner ear imbalance and then stroke. Mrs. Marion Hughes of Port View had a set back with a fall and other complications and at present we. could wish for more speedy recovery.
