Not even slightly nervous, she perched on the edge of a chair that was way too big for her, and quizz- ~ ed Mr. Smith about the pros and cons of being a lawyer. The interview was an assignment from school, a unit on careers, and each participating student was ask- ed to interview a person in a career he or she would like to pursue. Amanda, a very self-assured youngster, handled the interview like a true professional, and even went so far as calling the Port Perry Star and requesting a photographer for the occasion. How could the Star say no to a future lawyer? Not that Amanda wants to be any old criminal or real estate lawyer. Not Amanda. She has definite plans to be a "'sports lawyer," to handle cases for athletes "who go on strike and stuff like that. I'd have to go to court for them." She says she simply likes law and thoroughly enjoys her favourite TV program, L.A. Law (naturally). "Ireally am interested in solving people's problems,' she says sincerely. But what is the best thing Aman- da sees in a law career? Amanda is nobody's fool. She smiles as wide as the line-up in traffic court, and says brightly, "Money!"
