After breakfast we all enjoyed the programme as presented by each class. It was especially nice to see the adult class perform for us this year. On Christmas Sunday, Rev. McEntyre's sermon title was "Joy to the World." His text was from Titus, Chapter 2, verse 11. Dianne Batten and Ruth Oliver read the scripture lessons. Matthew David- chuk, Debbie Batten, Sharmen Porter and Catherine Aiken assisted in the lighting of the Advent candles. The Junior Choir sang two selec- tions, the Drummer Boy and Away in a Manager, with the choir members depicting the manger scene in costume. The sanctuary simply looked beautiful and was adorned with red and white poinset- tias and window candle ar- rangements. A very impressive set- ting. Our special thanks to those who made this possible. Joan and Theo Knight had all their family home last Sunday and enjoyed their Christmas dinner together. [ hope you will be good enough to share with us some of your comings and goings over the Christmas Holidays. After all, that's what this column is all about. Hope to hear from you. Moore Presbyterian Church In Canada It had been a long and tiresome day for a little girl's Daddy. He just wanted to get home -- relax -- and forget all the hassle and arguments of the day. As he stepped from a car a few doors from X his home he saw a little girl running towards him. She threw her lit- tle arms around his neck as he picked her up. In one of her little hands 1 held ever so tightly was a penny sucker. She said I kept this for you. It had been held so tightly for so long that both sucker and hand seem- ed to have become welded together. With misty eyes Daddy was able to separate the two. But with eyes that were beginning to border on %) tears Daddy saw only one thing -- not a penny sucker -- but a little heart that was bursting with love. The sucker was the expression of the love she had for him. Later as she was giving him a "good- night kiss" he said to her, tell me how much you love me. She stret- ched her little arms wide open as she answered "I love you a whole o) big muchness." She had spoken a four letter word to express the most wonderful thing in the world -- Love. A delightful young couple sat in the office. It was beyond doubt they were very much in love with each other. Throughout the inter- view concerning their forthcoming marriage their eyes kept focus- ing on each other. It was a beautiful wedding and never a bride walk- ed so radiantly down the aisle. Then a few short years later that ra- diant bride returned in deep despair and sobbing bitterly. What had happened? That four letter word which spelled Love had been chang- ed to another four letter word spelled Hate. Each day by means of the various media -- especially radio and TV -- we are being assaulted and subjected to a multiplicity of four letter words spat out by our elected officials -- even in the halls of Parliament. All of them expressing rebellion, bitterness, violence and hate. Christmas is a four letter word which is the very opposite to all the others. Christmas spelt with four letters means Love. What a difference it makes at this season of the year. What makes the dif- ference? It is because Almighty God gave us a Gift that is spelt in four letters -- Love. His Gift came not in a beautifully wrapped and decorated form which only lasts for a brief time. God's Gift was wrap- ped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. It was the gift of love that never changes. The Apostle Paul uses the world "Unspeakable" in describing God's Gift to the world of men. In doing so, he simply means that it is entirely impossible to adequately express the bless- ings -- the fulness -- the glory -- the riches -- the value of this Divine Gift. Christmas is God's four letter gift. And those four letters put together spell Love. That Gift defies all logic. Where shall we find words or pictures -- poetry or painting -- that can reproduce the limitless love of God. No sacred Oratorio -- or Handel's Messiah with its stirring > climax in the Hallelujah Chorus -- or the artistry of Bach's Christmas Oratoria -- can be classed with the music of the Angel Choir re- echoing over Bethlehem that night of nights. Even those Angel voices could not sing the full glory of Christ -- the Gift of Love. All the hands of genius painting Nativity Scenes cannot truly delineate the personal blessings of Bethlehem. No poetry -- not even the sacred lines of our Christmas Carols -- nor the ancient Psalms of inspired prophecy -- can fully express the depth, length and breadth and height of God's Christmas Gift in Christ. All other gifts however great or costly are paltry and pale into insignificance when compared with this Gift. All others whatever they be -- however precious -- can be measured and valued. In this age where billions of figures of high finance -- this Gift of God the (5, Christ of Christmas remains incomputable. Reason falters -- logic fails -- Orators stammer -- and authors grope for words -- when confronted by the "Unspeakable" mystery of Christmas. God became man. The Divine became a mortal. The Creator became a creature. The Son of God became the son of a Virgin. The King of Heaven's 9. Throne becomes a Babe in a Bethlehem stall. The Architect of the Gd Universe became a carpenter. The source of all Wisdom became a teacher. It defies definition or explanation. Is it any wonder that the Apostle spoke of it as being God's Unspeakable Gift. It has been the custom through the years to remember with our 4 gifts at Christmas those who are near and dear to us and also the AS) (© 9, impoverished. But the Gift of God is given not to His friends only, but to mankind everywhere. His Love never changes. Thus we can all join in singing that old Christmas Carol -- Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, Born is this happy morning; Jesus, to Thee be all glory given; Word of the Father, Now in flesh appearing; O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. At this lovely season -- when the bells are ringing and voices singing, I send to you greetings and sincere good wishes. May it be a very Happy Christmas for each family in our town and communi- J ty. May the New Year bring to one and all good health, prosperity le and the Peace of His Presence.
