After a loss and a tie put Big V in- to the D championship game late Saturday night, the boys turned in a fine game to defeat Beaverton by a 4-1 score. After a scoreless first period, the Big V's sharpened their shooting sights in the second as Dave Holt picked a nifty corner on a pass from Ryan Picard. Todd Smart then made it 2-0 with an assist from Kent Jamieson and hard working Ryan Picard gave the team a three goal bulge with Ian McClelland picking up the helper. Beaverton scored one mid-way through the third to break the shut- out bid by Steve Slade but with just 11 seconds to go in the game, Gar- field LeFort iced it for Big V as he tipped a loose puck into the Beaver- ton cage. This was a solid team effort for Big V and Steve Slade turned in just a great game between the pipes. He foiled Beaverton's big guns on several tough chances to keep his team in the game. In their opening game played at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning against Bobcaygeon, the Big V guys just couldn't get the puck bouncing in their direction and the fast skating, smooth passing Bobcaygeon team opened, a 4-0 lead before Ian McClelland scored with assists to John Rolston and Ryan Picard. However, Little Britain was award- ed the victory under tournament rules for scoring the first goal. Todd Smart had a pair of markers for Big V, both unassisted, while Kent Jamieson banged in a single on a nice pass from Ryan Picard. Garfield LeFort handled the net- minding chores for Big V and turn- ed aside some tough shots. Coaches Gary Edgar and Al Lemieux were very pleased with the strong effort from the team in this game and in the D final against Beaverton. Atom B's split a pair of games In an exhibition game on Thurs- day the 17th, Port Perry lost to the LNHL Bo Peep Canadian major team. | There was no score in the first period but Oshawa opened the scor- ing early in the second period. Ricky Olaisen assisted by Graham Holt and Richie Tripp tied up the score near the end of the second. Oshawa never looked back as they scored 3 unanswered goals. Final score Oshawa 4 - Port Perry 1. Port Perry was physically outplayed by a much stronger team in this game but a special mention to James Paterson who played well between the pipes. The arm wrestlers, who are putting Port Perry on the map in this sport, will continue their training sessions over the Christmas season getting ready for an important match in January in Sault Ste. A special note goes to Ports three centremen, lan Shrigley, Craig Laird and Ricky Olaisen who have been doing some extra work on their faceoffs as they won 17 out of 25 in this game.
