Ladies Hospital Auxiliary Pot-luck luncheon Jan. 14 by Luella Graham The Port Perry Ladies Hospital Auxiliary held their meeting on Monday, with 21 persons present. The President opened the meeting and then wished all a Merry Christmas, and a good holiday. The secretary's reports was read, and accepted. Other reports were also given. Bonnie Gerrow received more baby booties. She reported six boys born and three girls. Our President told us that we have a busy year ahead. On Jan. 14th, a pot-luck luncheon is being held for the Junior Volunteers and the Ladie's Auxiliary are asked to at- tend this. There was an In-Patient party held at the Hospital on Dec. 9th, by the Volunteers. This party was a great success. Twenty-seven of the patients were able to attend. They had Archie Walker, and Louise Hartney entertaining. What a love- ly gesture for the patients done by volunteers and entertainers. Sure a pleasant time for these patients. Mr. Brown was with us, and thanked the Auxiliary for the work they do, and then wished one and all the Season's Greetings. A motion was then made by Mary Letters that we adjourn. At this time, we had Pat Duchemin B.Sc. Phm., come to speak on 'Seniors and Drugs." This was a most infor- mative talk, and the ladies were free to ask questions. This being our Christmas meeting, lovely goodies, tea and cof- fee was served. Our next meeting will be Jan. 18th, 1988. Hope to see a good turnout. And, a Happy Holiday to each and all. Roger Kim Wilson, 27, of Lot 17, Conc. 5, Oshawa, died after his pick- up truck collided with a larger four by four on Regional Road 57, at the Scugog/Newcastle Town Line. Durham Regional Police say the accident happened at 1:20 p.m. when the Wilson truck was headed northbound on 57. The four by four, driven by Robert Jones, 20, of Thor- nhill, was headed south, and was at- tempting to turn left onto the Town Line. Well it is my feeling that they still won't, you and I will do that for them. Be assured of that! Finance Minister Michael Wilson backed down on his tax on food and gave us a few breaks (?) on our in- come tax but on the other hand it would seem to me we are more than contest! paying for his 'kindness. Insurance companies make a lot of money and seemingly are enjoy- ing huge profits. They have the use of our money for many years (as in life insurance) yet they are threatening to pass on this tax to us. Are we to be penalized for letting them use our money? Will we be taxed again on that money when our policies are due? I am curious to know what the banks and trust companies are go- ing to do to offset this "squeeze." My best guess would be that they will do some "squeezing" of their own. I, for one, am all squeezed out.
