ra, Tree branch crushes car PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 22, 1987 -- 9 Elderly couple injured in freak accident A Port Perry couple had to be taken to hospital by ambulance after a tree crushed their car in a freak accident December 15. Rae Webster, 65, and his wife Rena, 61, were travelling east along Casimir Street, driving to their home at number 278. Durham Regional Police say they were within feet of their driveway when the top half of a large maple tree snapped off in Tuesday's severe weather conditions, and crashed down on the roof of their 1985 Oldsmobile, causing an estimated $3,000 damage. In a letter to the editor (see page 5), she describes the concern she has felt about the trees on Casimir Street for some time. She says falling limbs and bran- ches are almost common on the tree-lined street, and she fears so- meone may get hurt or worse. Ms. Mark says she has approach- ed both Scugog Township and Scugog Hydro employees about trimming or cutting down the more unstable trees, but claims nothing has been done. ONE WOMAN'S VIEW by Chris Carlisle ST < HOPPERS (From page 6) The boys and girls wanted books and bikes and skipping ropes and skates alright. Some wanted dolls and tea sets so badly their hearts nearly broke to think they might not get them. Mrs. Claus' hands trembled as she read the first note left beside the plate of cookies. Big, warm tears fell. "Dear Santa: All I want is for you to get better." Back in the sleigh and still happily crying, Mrs. Claus showed Santa the note. Not wanting to disappoint the child, he sat up a little "straighter. And with the next note, he tried not to sneeze. By the time they finished visiting all the homes in Canada, the red spots were fading and by the time they reached the United States the sneezing stopped altogether because everyone had asked Santa to get better. Somewhere over Africa the last red spot faded. "'Ho ho ho, Mrs. Claus, I'm feeling much much better.
