| wa 24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 15, 1987 Port Perry Star Sports Now six straight without a loss The Port Perry MoJacks put two more victories in the books over the weekend, both at the expense of the Lindsay Muskies. The MoJacks skated to a 7-2 win. Friday night in Lindsay, then Sun- day at the Scugog Arena, they emerged victorious in an 11-8 shoot- out which featured a lot of sloppy play and penalties. The two wins give MoJacks 26 points on the season, still six behind division leading Lakefield Chiefs. The MoJacks are now six straight without a loss and have dropped just one game in their last 13. v Against the Muskies in Lindsay on numerous chippy Friday evening, seven different players had a hand in the scoring as the Mojacks never trailed. Rob Met- calfe and Steve Ashby hit for power play goals, followed by Dave Culbert, Kevin Long, Thane Ellis, Craig Menzies and John Harman. Kevin Long also had three assists while Greg Warriner had two Down and out on this play. A member of the Port Perry MoJacks got some rough treatment from a Lindsay Muskie defender in this sequence during Jr. C action Sunday at the Scugog Arena. MoJacks won the game 11-8, and also defeated Lindsay 7-2 on Friday evening. The game was anything but a gem, but the MoJacks will take the two points as they continue to chase first place Lakefield in the divisional standings. Duane Webster notch- ed both goals for the Muskies. On Sunday night in what was less than a brilliant hockey game, the MoJacks opened a 5-2 lead in a pokey first period with Steve Ashby, Dave Burnett, Craig Menzies, Chris Edmondson and Thane Ellis finding the range. Duane Webster and Bill Quackenbush replied for Lindsay. Early in the second, the Muskies tried to make a game of it as they scored three times in four minutes, to knot the score at 5-5. But just past the mid-point, Craig Menzies tipped home a pass from Rob St. Jules to put the MoJacks ahead for good. Greg Warriner then scored off a scramble, Rob Metcalfe snapped home a 25 footer and Ed- monston was set up nicely by Dave Culbert late in the period to give Mo- Jacks a 9-5 bulge. In the final period with both teams taking many minor penalties, the MoJacks got goals from Dave Burnett on a great centering pass 'from Rob Baker and John Harman who was sent in alone on a pass from Flip McBride. The MoJacks took 23 minors in this game, many of the retaliatory nature, while the Muskies were hit for 17 minors and got away Scot-free with many more infractions of the rules. Late in the game, the MoJacks fine rookie defenseman Chris Ed- mondson took a heavy slash on the pads and he retaliated with a butt end against the Lindsay player. Ed- mondson was assessed a match penalty and is facing a four game suspension. The Lindsay player was called for a two minute minor. Paul Goreski faced 35 shots in this 'MolJacks sweep two from Muskies game, while the MoJacks fired 40 at the Lindsay cage. Kevin Long and Dean Smethurst both had strong games for the Mo- Jacks, as did Dave Culbert. Along the blue line, Clay Dempsey, Phil McBride, Chris Edmondson and Rob Metcalfe carried most of the duties as the MoJacks have some in- juries and suspensions. Darren Nesbitt may return to ac- tion this weekend as will Steve Fountain. Nesbitt has a broken bone in his hand, Fountain's been out with a two game. suspension. Forwards John Hartford and Len Giacalone are nursing minor injuries but should be ready for action this weekend. The MoJacks have a couple of very important divisional games up- coming this weekend, starting on Friday night when they head to Ux- bridge for an 8:30 tiff with the Bruins. The last time these teams met, the game ended in a 4-4 draw. Then Sunday night (December 20) the Lakefield Chiefs will visit the Scugog Arena for the annual Christmas Night. There will be a lot of draws for special prizes, candy for the youngsters and a visit from Santa Claus. It's not likely that the Lakefield Chiefs will be in a festive mood, however, as they are a powerhouse in the Central Junior C loop this season. The Chiefs won the first meeting of the season 7-6 back in Oc- tober, and if the MoJacks are to have any chance of over-taking Lakefield for top spot, they pretty well have to come away with two points on December 20. It should be a good hockey game and face off is set for 7:30 PM.
