Their first game saw them matched up with Sunderland. Although our team out-shot the opponents, the game did not go in our favour We started with a goal in the 1st period but soon lagged behind as Sunderland took the lead. Several attempts were made in the 3rd period to match the score but were unable to do so Scoring for Port was Tim Fitz patrick 2 goals, Tommy Chambers I goal, Daryl McEnaney 1 goal, Jason Logan 1 assist and Brad Mor ton 1 assist. The 2nd game saw them matched up with a team from Beaverton They skated to a victory of 5-3. Port was behind by 3 goals in the 1st 5 minutes, but had an excellent tur- naround and saw 5 goals ending up on their scoreboard. Terrific effort was given by Kevin Gray 3 goals, Todd Parry 1 goal, Darryl Moase 1 goal, Kent Johnston 2 assists, Brad Shanly 1 assist and Jason Logan 1 assist. Our third game was on Sunday and saw us matched up with a dou- ble A team from Hillcrest. Our team played a str ong game and came out with a tie of 2-2. The game went in- to a 5 minute sudden death over- time, but unfortunately Hillcrest scored with only 2 seconds remaining. Scoring for P ort in this game was Tommy Chambers 1 goal, 1 assist, Tim Fitzpatrick 1 goal and Brad Shanly 1 assist. They needed to win this game to go to the championship round. The boys played extremely well and the coaching staff was proud of their effort. Good Work Boys! Curling Corner by Scott Howey Congratulations to Debbie Van- Camp and her rink on winning the Business Girls Bonspiel sponsored by Settlement House. Curling with Debbie were Cindy Werry, Ellen Arksey, and Merle Wilson. There were several Port Perry teams travelling out of town this past weekend. Among them were Scott Howey's team of Dave Roth, Glen James and Ken Jeffrey who were at the Sun Life Bonspiel in Whitby. The team lost their opening game but came back to win the next tour and qualify i in the main event. They lost to Bill Gamble of Ottawa in the quarter finals but picked up $775 for their efforts. Ralph Fairman's team of Ted Culbert, lan Griffen and Terry Howsam, travelled to Beaverton for a one day bonspiel, while Earl Mayes, Brad Howsam, Dave Nixon and Al Lees finished third at a bonspiel in Cookstown. With Deb are team-mates Cindy Werry, Merle Wilson and Ellen Arksey. The team wound up with 41 points in a dead heat with the Laurel Griffen rink, and a "double aggregate" system had to be used to determine the winner. Pineridge Atoms run into tough squad from Whitby The Pineridge Sports Atom No. 2 team played in their first tourna- ment this weekend in Little Britain but were eliminated in the semi- finals by the double A Major No. 2 team from Whitby. In the first game Saturday morn- ing Port Perry defeated the host team Little Britain 6-0. Scoring for Port Perry were Craig Laird 4 (1 unassisted), Ryan Williams and Ian McCready 1 each. Assists went to Greg Thompson and Kent Taylor 2 each and Kirk Swain, Graham Holt, Craig Laird, Jeff Ver- non and Billy Zaparanuik 1 each. Craig Laird played an outstanding game contributing 5 out of Port Perry's 6 points, also Jeff Vernon who played his usual steady blue line performance. Later that day Port Perry played against the team from Oakwood and came out on the losing end 4-3. This was a well played game for both teams as the scoring was back and forth all game. Port Perry scored first on an unassisted goal by lan Shrigley do- ing his usual dazzling footwork through a maze of players. James Paterson was hot between the pipes in this game. Also scoring in this game were Ricky Olaisen unassisted and Daryl Bourgeois assisted by Jeff Vernon. Jeff Vernon and Greg Thompson were top notch in their fine defen- sive plays. On Sunday the Port Perry boys plaved in the semi-final game against the double A Major No. 2 team from Whitby and came up the losers 5-1 Port Perry jumped into the lead on a fine goal by Daryl Bourgeois assists going to lan Shriglev and Ryan Wilhams Whitby came back with 5 unanswered goals thus eliminating Port Perry from the tournament The final score does not reflect the many excellent saves from Scot Prechitko and James Paterson. A special highlight of this tourna- ment was a "Showdown" featuring 2 players and 1 goalie from each of the 12 teams entered. Scot Prechitko, Ian Shrigley and Ricky Olaisen represented Port Perry. The boys were a little nervous as none of them had even experienced this type of competition before (on- ly in practise) and as a result did not fair well but they should be com- mended for their effort. The Pineridge Sports Atom 2 team are now in training for their second tournament this weekend in Bobcaygeon. Good luck team! League Game Orono picked up the first goal of the game in the first period. With a "dazzling glove save by James Pater-" son and good defensive action by Jeff Vernon and Greg Thompson, Pineridge held the score at 1-0 until the 5 minute mark of the second period. Kirk Swain scored assisted by Kent Taylor and Craig Laird. 9 seconds later Ricky Olaisen scored assisted by Graham Holt. Ricky came back again in 14 seconds to make the score 3-1. Both goals were a demonstration of quick reflexes by Ricky on two rebounds. Orono scored once more to keep the fans on the edge of their seats on a close 3-2 game. Orono was robb- ed by Scot Prechitko's great save on a breakaway! Good defensive plays by Matt Morris and Greg Thompson to keep the lead. An excellent team effort, in the last 2 minutes while y Pineridge played short-handed, to keep the puck out of their end. Petites tie 7-7 Bruton's [.D.A. Petites went on a two game road trip this past Sunday December 6. The first game was at 12:15 in the Malvern Arena against Scarboro. This was a fast paced game that resulted in a 7-7 tie. At the end of the first period Port was leading 5-4. The second period was as action packed as the first. Some terrific plays by the defence, forwards and good net minding kept Port in the game during the final minutes of play. Scoring for the game were: Amy Parliament (4) goals. Amanda Webb (2) goals, Lyndsay Dutkewich (1) goal. Kim Poppleton (1) assist. Michelle Fitzpatrick 1) assist, and Shannen Fox (3) assists The second game was at 3:30 in the Don Beer Arena against Picker ing. Port dominated the game from the opening free pass. Port led Pickering by a score of 4-1 at the end of the first period. Our Petites registered three more goals in the second period to win 7-3. During the two games the girls were executing some of the plays that coach Lloyd Morden has been teaching them. Keep up the good work girls.
