by John B. McClelland The Port Perry MoJacks put another victory into the books Satur- ay night at the Scugog Arena as hey white-washed the Lindsay uskies 8-0. | Paul Goreski recorded the shut- out for the MoJacks, although he hardly worked up a sweat facing Just 19 shots as his team-mates ~ threw a fairly heavy blanket over e Lindsay attackers. Goreski was danger of dozing off in the first period as the Muskies managed just ~ three shots in his direction. He stop- ped nine in the second and seven in Port Perry Star PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 1, 1987 -- 27 Salute to Minor Hockey at Jr. C contest MoJacks goalie Brian Tarleton looks back in the net after a "blistering shot' from Tyke Greg Bruton during the Minor Hockey shooting con- test Saturday night at the MoJack-Lindsay Junior C game. Brian is usually pretty steady in the net, the final frame. It was in the last minute of the game that he faced his toughest test making two outstan- ding saves on point-blank drives to preserve his shut-out. As they have on several occasions so far this season, the MoJacks broke the game wide open in the third period with five goals. Defenseman Darren Nesbitt led the MoJack scoring parade with a hat trick and an assist. Rob St. Jules chipped in with a couple of goals while singles came from Dean Smethurst, John Hartford, and Kevin Long with a short-handed club. (See story) but he may have "relaxed" a little when young Greg wound up for the shot. The salute to Minor Hockey players and sponsors was a nice public relations gesture on the part of the Junior C marker in the dying seconds of this game. It was St. Jules who got the team going at the 3:42 mark of the first on the power play with assists to Rob Metcalfe and Nesbitt. Then it was Nesbitt's turn as he fired two straight power play goals which were almost carbon copies of each other. On both goals he mov- ed in from the left point to take a centering pass and rifled the shot past Mike Gregory in the Lindsay cage. P The MoJacks were full marks for the 3-0 lead they owned after 20 Sunday November 29 Port Perry Allen Aluminum Tween Ringette team travelled to Ennismore. In spite of a lopsided 11-1 Port victory, 1 the fans were treated to excellent "= ringette. 8 The game featured defensive "= work which only allowed three shots on Port's net. The girls also made some fine passing plays which total- ly confused the opposition. Nicki Beare and Kelly Menzies combined on the first goal with Nicki getting the goal and Kelly the assist. Valerie Payne took a beautiful pass from Kelly Menzies and caught the top corner for Port's second goal. Kelly, Valerie and Kim Poppleton combined for the third goal with Kelly getting the goal this time. The Kelly Menzies-Valerie Payne combination made it 4-0 with Valerie scoring. Nicki Beare got the first goal of the second period on a pass from Valerie Payne. Kelly Menzies made it 6-0 on a great solo effort. Kelly got her third goal a minute later assisted by Linda Payne. Nicki Beare got two in a row - the first assisted by Laurel Menzies and the second assisted by Mandy Porter and Laurel Menzies. Valerie Payne, Kelly Menzies and Nicki Beare then moved back to play defense to give our defense a chance to play up and the girls did a good job - the new defense and the new forwards. On the next two goals two of our girls picked up their first goals of the season and both were super ef- forts. Laurel Menzies made it 10-1 Tweens strong defense with Danielle Cooper picking up the assist. On the last goal Lori Buscher picked the ring up in the corner, circled in front and scored. Linda Payne got the assist. It was great to see playmakers as well as goal scorers get recognition with assists being awarded on all but one goal. Danielle Cooper did not get a lot of points but she played a great two way game and her hard work was instrumental in Port com- ing up with the ring several times. A special thank you to Kim Pop- pleton who was up from the Petite B's and played super for us. Great game team and good luck in your home tournament Saturday. Go out and support the girls, their first game is 9:00 a.m. Saturday. minutes as they out-shot the visitors 15 to 3. The Muskies appeared to come to life slightly in the middle frame as they directed nine shots at Paul Goreski, but the period re- mained scoreless. The third period belonged com- pletely to Port Perry as the team fired 20 shots on the Lindsay net and hit for five goals. While the MoJacks were happy to come away with the two points, the victory was costly as the team will be short-handed going into the Ajax Arena this Thursday evening for a match with the tough Axemen. Forward Rob Baker will miss this one due to a two-game suspension, from a week ago, and defenseman Dave Simms will also face two games on the shelf for being tagg- ed the aggressor in a scrap with Rob Rae of the Muskies. Newcomer Steve Fountain is in the same boat as he'll face at least a single game suspension for being the aggressor in a scrap with one of the Lindsay players on Saturday night. Fountain played his first game with the MoJacks on Saturday and at 6'2"' and about 215 pounds, he presents an imposing figure along the blue line. He played Junior B hockey in Oshawa this season. Though his timing and conditioning appeared to be slightly off Saturday night, he turned in an impressive performance the first time in a Mo- Jack uniform. For a guy his size he's got good mobility and he likes the heavy hitting. With a few games under his belt, Fountain will help the MoJack defense, which already is solid with guys like Nesbitt, Clay Dempsey, Dave Simms, Rob Met- calfe and the injured Chris Edmond- son. In 13 games so far this year, the MoJacks have two shut-outs and have given up a stingy 41 goals or an average of just over three per game. Saturday's game featured a fair oJacks white-wash the Muskies amount of chippy play with the Muskies taking 19 minors and a five minute major for cross checking. The MoJacks took 17 minors. Each team had two players tossed out for fighting. It was a large and noisy crowd at the Scugog Arena as the MoJacks paid tribute to Minor Hockey by granting free admission to all young hockey players wearing their team sweaters. And between the first and second period, Minor Hockey players from the Tykes to the Bantams were given a chance to test their shooting skills against MoJack netminder Brian Tarleton. It was great fun for the fans to see and certainly a thrill for the young hockey stars of the future. Representing their divisions were Leigh McClymont and Greg Bruton from the Tykes; Chris Orr and Ian Parliament for the Advanced Tykes; Robbie Murphy and Jason Hopkins from the Novice; Jon Jamieson and Derek Anderson from Atom; Ryan Picard and Scott Airey from Pee Wee, and Pete Brock, Mike Toye and Darryl Outewick from the Bantams. This tribute to Minor Hockey players and the team sponsors was a nice public relations gesture on the part of the MoJacks. Meanwhile, back to Junior C hockey, the MoJacks will have their work cut out for them this coming Thursday night (Dec. 3) when they travel to Ajax. Simms, Fountain and Baker will miss this one and Chris kigondson is doubtful due to a gimpy Knee. The MoJacks are go- ing to be thin along the blue line. Next home game for the MoJacks is this coming Sunday evening (Dec. 6) when the visitors will be the Ux- bridge Bruins. Game time is 7:30 PM.
