22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 1, 1987 TT I py Pasta Parlour opens this week Pasta Parlour owner Saverio Mazzocchi admits he doesn't know much about cooking pasta However his mom, Enza, is an ex- pert. And that's what's important, since it is Mrs. Mazzocchi who is do- ing the cooking at Port Perry's newest restaurant, at Lakeview Plaza on Water Street. The diminuitive Italian woman with a ready smile and a quiet ac- cent, has been whipping up homemade sauces all her life, and will be sharing some 15 or 16 sauces with Scugog when the restaurant opens on December 5th. Sav (short for Saverio--he says nobody can pronounce the whole name) renovated for former fast food side of BJ Donuts, which he purchased in September, and transformed plain walls into a cozy Italian pasta eatery. Wainscotting, red and green paint and warm overhead Tiffany lights combine to make Pasta Parlour a comfortable place to grab a quick lunch or enjoy a leisurely dinner. But it's more than just a sit-down restaurant. Sav says his new business will deliver in Port Perry between4 p.m. and 9 p.m., and will be open every day but Monday. What's more, he promises all pasta dishes can be ready to eat within ten minutes (delivery will take a little longer, of course). What makes a meal from Pasta Parlour really special, is. Knza Maz- zocchi's secret recipes for pasta sauces. With everything from plain tomato sauce to green sauce, alfredo, pesto, rague, shrimp, seafood, clam, garlic, pork and chicken-thege's a sauce to appeal to everyone's taste buds. Choosing the sauce is the hard part--and once you've chosen a sauce, you can choose one of 25 dif- ferent pastas to go with it, including specialties such as fettucine, bucatine, ditali, elbows, shells and basic spaghetti. All pastas and sauce will sell for the low price of $3.99 each, except for other dishes like lasagna and manicotti. The shop also has a ter- rific ceasar salad (Enza ferments the dressing for two days before ser- ving it) and mandatory garlic bread. Sav claims it's the best pasta he's ever eaten, and he should know because he downs at least one pasta dish every day. "I've been eating it all my life. | know my mom's cooking is good," he says with enthusiasm. "The pro- blem is getting people to come in and try it, but I think once they do, they'll be hooked." He also insists pasta isn't fatten- ing, and is, in fact, healthy. "All the athletes are eating it," he says. "It must be good for you!" Pasta Parlour also caters, and can feed up to 30 people with at least 24 hours notice. Sav and his mom are excited about their new project (he says there's nothing like it anywhere ex- cept in Toronto), and they invite pasta lovers to sample some good old-fashioned Italian home cooking. on Fashion PORT PERRY PLAZA PRE-CHRISTMAS ffs of 4 4 4 10% OFF All Stock including HOLIDAY WEAR HOURS: NOV. 30 to DEC. 23 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM Saturdays 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM DEC. 24th - 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM 263 Queen Street, Port Perry JEWELLERY & TANNING INC. Under the guidance of members of the Oshawa Garden Club, all the baskets were in- dividually filled and decorated by volunteers at a "Holly Basketing," held at the Oshawa Armouries on December 10th. "We are making a special effort to reach seniors with respiratory problems" says Volunteer Chair- man, Laura Smith. "Everyone in- volved feels that this is a very ap- propriate way for the Lung Associa- tion to reach out at Christmas- time." Visits will be made to homes, hospitals and nursing homes in Ajax, Beaverton, Bowmanville, Oshawa, Pickering, Port Perry, Ux- bridge and Whitby. This is the first year that the Association has distributed its Christmas holly to seniors and shut- ins.
