24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 24, 1987 Port Perry Star MoJacks hang tough to split two with Merchants by John B. McClelland The Port Perry MoJacks had their un-defeated string stopped at six games Saturday night as they were downed 7-3 by the Little Bri- tain Merchants. But the next night at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks looked like a different team as they skated to a tough 5-2 decision over the same Merchants in a rugged, bruising affair. On Saturday night in Little Bri- tain, the MoJacks simply came out flat froin the opening gun, possibly feeling the effects of a seven day lay-off between games. The Merchants took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a power play goal by Larry Reid, padded the lead to 4-2 in the second period, then added three more in the final frame to coast home with the two points. For the MoJacks, Bob St. Jules and Clay Dempsey scored in the middle frame and Steve Ashby add- ed one in the third period. For the Merchants, Kevin Debnam led with two goals, while Jerry Kea had a four point night on a single goal and three assists. Each team took 13 minor penalties in this game. It was the second straight win for the Mer- chants as they pinned a 5-3 loss on the Lindsay Muskies in Friday's action. Cor- nish on November 16, the Beige Flyers squeaked past the Blue Jays by a score of 5 to 4 in YMCA Floor Hockey action. Andrew Jacobson had a big night for the Beige Flyers by scoring 2 goals and played solidly in net dur- ing the third period. Mark Sauter and Doug Short shared the goalten- ding role with Andrew while Mat- thew Koetje also scored 2 goals and Aaron Stiller got 1 for the Flyers. For the Blue Jays, Jeff Whitfield and Jamie Sauter made save after save while playing in goal. The goal scorers were Jeffrey Gunn with 2 and Jamie Sauter and Jamie Irvine with one each. Other hard workers in this game were Chris Langford, Martin VanRavenswaay, John Berry and Adam Jacobson for the Blue Jays and Greg Langford, Jason Gunn, Adam Youmans, Tod Larsen and Eddie Whitfield for the Beige Flyers. In Senior Floor Hockey action, the Port Perry Green Giants played host to the Blackstock Bruins and took an early lead on a goal by An- drew Jones in the first period. Tod Stewart shut-out the Bruins in the first period with a strong perfor- mance in net for the Giants while Daryl Dutkewich played in net for the Bruins. In the 2nd period, Mike Hepburn was able to get 2 goals past Tod for the Bruins while Kevin Pearce scored 2 on Daryl for the Green Giants with great passing from An- drew Jones, Scott Prechitko and John Hall. In the third period, Louis Whit- field for the Giants and Mike Hep- burn for the Bruins, were sensa- tional goalkeepers for their respec- tive teams with each goaler allow- ing only one goal in this action pack- ed game. p For the Green Giants, Scott Persistence paid off nicely for MoJack penal ty killer John Hartford on this play as he batted home a rebound to help stake the Port Perry Mo- Jacks to a tough 5-2 win over the Little Britain Merchants. Hartford, along with Greg Warriner were strong in the penalty killing department as the MoJacks took 45 minutes and the Merchants were hit with 41 minutes in the box. (See story) Port Perry Printing played an ex- citing 1-1 game early Sunday mor- ning against Bowmanville. Early in the 1st period Bobby Cracknell made a rush only to have his shot stopped by the goal-post. Jason Hopkins put in Port's goal late in the 1st period after an end to end 'rush. Excellent defensive checking by Bobby Cracknell, Jason, and Chris Drury kept the score 1-0 until the 2nd period when Bowmanville The linesman had their hands full on several occasions breaking up skirmishes like this one Sunday night at the Scugog Arena as the Mo- Jacks and Little Britain Merchants played a rugg- ed bruising Junior C game. The MoJacks won it 5-2 to make up for a loss the previous night in Little Britain. This coming Saturday is Minor Hockey Night at the Junior C game between the MoJacks and Lindsay Muskies. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. Prechitko put his team ahead by a score of 4 to 2 which was eventually the game winner. The Blackstock Bruins came back with a goal by Daryl Dutkewich in the final minutes of the game but they were unable to get another shot past the defensive pair of Brandon Johnston and Pat Smith and Louis Whitfield in net. On November:17, the Port Perry Red Wings travelled to Blackstock to play the Cartwright Canadians in a high scoring game. After the first period, the score was tied at 2 with Wade Sheedy for the Red Wings and Brandon Agnew for the Canadians, playing well in their respective nets. Brandon went on and shut-out the Red Wings in the 2nd period while 3 goals got past Matthew Coyne who was playing in goal for the Red wings. In the 3rd period the Red Wings were able to score 6 goals on Ken- dall Chorosticki who was playing in + net for the Canadians, but it was not enough to win the game. The Canadians were able to put 5 more goals past Matthew Coyne while in the net for the Red Wings, to win this game 10 to 8. The scorers for Cartwright Cana- dians were Brandon Agnew with 4, Mike Leach 3, Mike Staniland 2 and Donnie Cliff 1. For the Port Perry Red Wings, Mike Hepburn scored 3 goals while Biair Prechitko and Wade Sheedy got 2 goals each and Matthew Youmans 1. In Junior Blackstnck Floor Hockey, the Bombers worked very hard to double the score on their rivals the Leafs by a score of 8 to 4. The big scorer for the Bombers was Brad Morton with four while Tommy Waters got a hat-trick to finish off the scoring for his team. For the Blackstock Leafs, Jason Logan registered his first hat-trick of the season while Adam Stewart scored one goal. | Novice tie 1-1 tied it up. Good forechecking by Adam Jones, Matt Bengel and Dan- ny Robinson. After a post game coaching ses- sion by Dave Jamieson Saturday, Chris Jamieson and Troy Campbell played their positions well.
