PION 16 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 24, 1987 Wendy's Boutique Finally, there's a store in Port Perry for women who don't take size eight For too long, larger size women have had to travel to Oshawa or elsewhere to buy clothes that fit them Really fit, with no squeezing or fussing required There's nothing more depressing for a woman than to find nothing in a store that fits. It's an age-old scenario--and something that never happens at Wendy's Boutique. Wendy Davis of Scugog Island opened the shop, at 180 Mary Street, in late September, and she says she's been overwhelmed by com- ments from people who enjoy shop- For big, beautiful women § ping there and finding beautiful clothes that fit. Before she even opened, she surveyed the area to find out how much demand there would be for a large sized store, and she knew from the response that the boutique would be popular. "They wanted me to open up right away, like the next day," Wendy, herself a larger sized woman, says. She'd been wanting to open such a store "all my iil because, like others, she was sick of hunting high sizes "I said to myself, if I could ever afford it, ['ddo it," she told the Star. Garden Club meeting Pine Ridge Garden Club held their Nov. 3 meeting in_the way of a workshop on Gir Decorations & Gift Wrapping. Chris Wilson of Weall & Cullen demonstrated dif- ferent ways to gift wrap which was very informative & interesting. Anita Mazzarolo led the workshop, showing different & very beautiful decorations. The monthly competition "*Win- dy' a design showing motion was won by Ann Julia Bajema, 2nd Alice Dodd, 3rd Alice Turcotte. Prizes presented were donated by Paula ' Lishman, Paul's Shoe Repair & Nestleton Country Stork Marilyn Bailey won a $10.00 gift certificate donated by Brock's Department Store for the door prize. The Junior Garden Club winners of the "best pumpkin face' were Katie Coates, Cliff Pelrine & Kimberley Coates. (nce again, we are having one of our fun bus trips. Finding the store itself was easy, in a renovated century house, with a country porch and a cozy interior. "We wanted a classy but homey feeling," she says. Inside the store is everything a woman might need to dress, from the top of her head, right down to the tips of her toes. Sweaters, suits, pants, blouses, 1e slinky lingerie, all in sizes 14 to 26--you name it, and Wendy's Boutique has it. What's more, the shop doesn't \ cater to any old-fashioned concepts of what larger women should wear. "They can wear absolutely anything," Wendy says confidently. "It shouldn't be too tight, but that's the only thing. Black is really popular, but black isn't slimming unless it's in the right style." The fabrics at Wendy's are top quality. The finishing touches (like jewells and sequins), are colourful and bright. These are the same fashions anyone else would wear- except they're sized to fit the larger weman.
