Lorne was born March 2, 1921 to the late Myrtle Luke and Lewis wagner in Reach Township. On June 28, 1940, he married An- nie Grace Lucille Gibson, the Rev.J. Denny as the officiating minister. At time of marriage, he was a farm employee for Wesley Akney at Ep- som, Ontario. All his married life, he worked as a farm employee. For two years after marriage, he worked for J.C. Blakely at Saintfield. For the next seven years for Elmer Wallace in BUSINESS DIRECTORY Brock Township. Then for twenty- two years for Murray Williams of Port Perey -- When Murray sold the farm he was Hired by the late Lloyd Wilson of Uxbridge Township in 1972 and was employed by Lloyd's wife Olive till the time of his passing. Lorne served fifteen years on the Board of the Bible Club Movement of Oshawa. He was superintendent at Epsom Sunday School for a while. He became a member of the Ux bridge Baptist Church in 1961 and there he served as Deacon for a period of years, taught a class of boys one time, also sang in the choir. Robert Vernon Robert Franklin Vernon passed away suddenly at the Sunnybrook Medical Centre in Toronto on September 3, 1987. He was in his 72nd year. Bob Vernon was born December 29th, 1915 in Reach Township. He was the eldest son of Alonzo Franklin Vernon and Elvelina Maude Crosier. Bob attended school in Prospect and Whitby. He married Elma Ruth Reesor in Port Perry March 2, 1940. He served 1%, years overseas during World War II. Bob worked most of his married life at Reesor Fuel and Lumber, Port Perry. He was a member of the 'Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 419 and a founding member of the Port Perry Curling Club. Bob was also a member of the Port Perry United Church, serving ¢ a term as elder. Robert Vernon is survived by his wife Elma, dear father of Robert 'and his wife Barbara of Caledon, Marianne and her husband Robert Free of Port Perry, John and his wife Isabelle of Seagrave and Peter of Toronto. Dear grandfather of Karyn and David Vernon, Craig, Ryan and Brett Free, Lisa and Jason Vernon. Brother of Ronald and Raymond of Cannington and Clare of Port Perry. Pallbears were nephews, Kenneth Dowson, Danny Reesor, Gordon Vernon, Larry Vernon, Roger Ver- \ non and Wayne Vernon. A Funeral Service was held at the Wagg-McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home, Port Perry on Mon- day, September 7, 1987. Internment Pine Grove Cemetery. Rev. Glenn Jackson officiated. Doreen Torrens Doreen Ruth Torrens (Johnson) died on September 6, 1987 in the Mississauga Hospital after a very active life. Doreen was born in Man- chester, August 5, 1928, the daughter of Frank Johnson and the late Viola Wilson. Doreen was the sister of Wesley and Harley Johnson. Doreen received her education at Manchester Public School, Port Perry High School and Toronto Nor- mal School. She pursued a career in education and taught at Cashel, (north of Unionville), Sudbury, and Kingston where she married Jim. They raised three outstanding children; Ken, a lawyer; Ron a geophysicist and Lee-Anne, Economist. Also survived by Ron's wife, Andrea, a nurse at Sunnybrook Hospital. Jim, her husband, was a Vice- President of Dupont. They lived in Toronto, Kingston and Montreal. Doreen was very active in the com- munity and had many friends. She travelled widely with her husband. They were planning a trip to China, when Cancer overcame her after a courageous battle of seven years. One of her final joys of life was to see her newborn grandson, Brett, son of Ken and Colleen. Funeral Services were held in Mississauga on Wednesday, September 16, and officiated by a dear friend, Rev. John Griffen. She was laid to rest in Kendall's Cemetery, Utica, on Thursday, September 17, 1987.
