"We certainly have a lot of good friends and neighbours,' Mrs. Red- man told the Star the next day, ad- ding that plans are already under- way to build a new barn. Although shaken by the spec- tacular fire, Mrs. Redman said the family was heartened by the fact the milking herd was saved and that so many people offered assistance in so many ways. Council to push for traffic lights on 7A Scugog Township is prepared to ask the Minister of Transportation for traffic lights at the entrance to the Port Perry Plaza, but only if the plaza owner agrees to pay the bill for the installation of the lights. In fact, Township council Monday afternoon agreed to ask Durham East MPP Sam Cureatz to arrange a meeting between the Transporta- tion Minister and a delegation from the Township headed by Mayor Jerry Taylor. The intersection at Highway 7A and the Plaza entrance has been the scene of several accidents in the last few months and plaza merchants have hired off-duty OPP officers to direct cars in and out during péak times. Friday evenings and Saturdays. A study thiséummer, however, by the MTC, revealed that there is not sufficient numbers of vehicles to warrant installation of traffic signals. ) "I think this is a different situa- tion," said Mayor Taylor when the matter came up for discussion at Monday's council meeting. Other members agreed to try to have the top level meeting arrang- ed, but only if the plaza owner agrees to pay the costs of installa- tion of the lights, which could be in the $100,000 range. Mayor Taylor said that even with that assurance in writing from the owner of the plaza, it "will be a tough battle" to convince the Transportation Minister to order his department to install the signals.
