24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 20, 1987 NOVICE Two more games were played in the novice division of Port Perry Minor Hockey last Saturday, with David's Hairstyling and ReMax Realty squeaking out victories for the second week in a row Game | David's Hairstyling 2 Port Perry Printing 1 The Printers opened the scoring in this game, Jason Hopkins scor- ing, unassisted. David's came back though, scoring a goal in each of the second and third periods. Shane Norton scored, from Jason Heyworth, and then Brandon Ham- mond got the winner Game 2 ReMax Realty 2 Van Camp Contracting 0 This game featured a lot of good defensive play and some outstan- ding goal keeping by Darryl Holtby of the Van Camp team. Only Jamie Trick and Matt McClelland were able.to get the puck by him although there were numerous chances for the ReMax team. At the other end, Colin Laird picked up the shut-out for ReMax, making a couple of key saves in the process. ATOM The Atom House League 1s (wo weeks old, already there has been plenty of offence, some great goaltending and a fair amount of absenteeism. Just a reminder to coaches, players and parents to watch the board in the entrance of the arena for times of your games. Game No. | Port Perry Lions 5 Whitby Auto Wreckers 1 In this first game the Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Whit- by's Gavin Carnegie went end to end to break Kyle McClymont's bid at a shutout. Scoring for the Lions, Sean Gowley 2 goals, Jeff Griffin 1 goal, 1 assist, Ryan Duff 1 goal, 1 assist, Jason Brown 1 goal. Picking up Petites win 6-1 On Saturday, October 17 the Bruton's 1.D.A. Petites travelled to Milliken Mills in Markham for their first league game of the season and were successful in bringing home a 6-1 victory. Port got on the scoreboard within seconds of the opening free-pass. With quick passes, fast skating, some hard checking the girls were able to dominate most of the game. One of the best goals of the day came as the result of 2 quick passes and a fast break from our end. Keep up this type of play girls -- it works! Tracy Pelow in goal made some good stops and came within two ~ minutes of recording a shut-out. Maybe next time Tracy! At the end of the first period Port led by a score of 5-0. Scoring for the day were Amy Parliament 3 goals, Tanya Towns 2 goals, 1 assist, Lynd- say Dutkewich 1 goal, 2 assists, Kim Poppleton and Jennifer Morden each with 2 assists and Amanda Webb 1 assist. Game No. 2 Scugog Lumber 8 Gord Lewis Motors 1 Scugog Lumber came out ham- mering and led the game 5-0 by the end of the first period. Matt Brown proved to be the big shooter firing 4 goals - 2 assists, Jeff Woodward added 1 goal - 2 assist, Matt Mantel 2 goals, James Paterson 1 goal, Justin Wooten 2 assists with Jeff Jamieson, Darren Kinnunen, John Hall and Greg Pugh picking up single assists. Brandon Puckrin scored the only goal tor Gord Lewis beating Kyle. Simms late in the game. Kyle played a strong game in net for Scugog Lumber stopping 5 breakaways in a very solid effort. Game No. 3 Whitby Auto Wreckers 6 Tripp Real Estate 1 Whitby caught the Realty team a little under staffed and after spot- ting Tripp a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jon Jamieson assisted by Steve Cochrane, came roaring back with 6 unanswered goals. Mike Leach fired 3 goals, Matthew Hobbs had 2 goals - 1 assist, David Kemp 1 goal with single assists going to Aarron Bentley, Jason Vader, and Ryan Larmer. Game 4 Gord Lewis Motors 4 Tripp Real Estate 0 Ian Johnston came up with a well earned shutout for the Motor boys stopping a number of close chances. Karen Kett was the big shooter scor- ing 3 times, Matt Phoenix had 1 goal, 2 assists, Brandon Puckrin 2 assists with Tony Waldriff and Josh Wilson picking up single assists. Game 5 Port Perry Lions 3+ Scugog Lumber 1 This proved to be a very exciting, fast paced game with both goalies, Kyle Simms and Kyle McClymont making numerous saves. Liqns opened the scoring on a goal by Sean Gawley assisted by Alan Calder. Scugog tied the game a minute later when James Paterson found the target assisted by Jeff Woodward. Jeff Griffin poked home the winning goal in the 2nd period assisted by Scot Prechitko. Alan Calder finish- ed the scoring with 2 minutes left in the game with the assist going to Jeff Griffin. PEE WEE In this game we saw Big V Drug Store face off against Scala Brothers. The first period was very exciting with a lot of end to end play. The first goal was scored by Jerry Blackburn and Blair Prechitko pick- ed up the assist for Scala. The home team Big *'V" then tied it up with a goal by Scott Wylie from Ryan Pickard. Big V's' go ahead goal was scored by Phil Edgar and Ryan Pickard also got the assist. With his second of the game Jerry Blackburn scored and Darryl Slack picked up the assist to tie the game. In the second period Todd Smart scored a nice goal with Mike Staniland picking up the assist. lan McClelland worked hard on this goal with nice set ups by Philip] Edgar and Todd Smart. Also scor- ing for Big "V"' in the second period | was Ryan Pickard a real nice goal I. and unassisted. Scala fought back with the next two goals both scored by Toby. - Shewin unassisted and well deserved. To finish the game, Ryan Pickard picked up his second for the night, also unassisted. The game ended Big '""V" 6 - Scala 4. Both goalies, Robbie Romano for Scala and Gar- field LeFort played very well. Saturday, October 17 The early game brought the Emiels team to face off against Big "V"' Drug Store. The game was a Minor Hockey House Leagues very entertaining hockey game with both teams showing a lot of hustle. The Big *V"' team capitalized on three of their many chances winn- ing the game 3-0. Emiels had some great chances, one by Chad Venning on a breakaway but he was stoned by Garfield LeFort who really saved the game. Big 'V's' goals were scored by Scott Wylie and the assists going to "Todd Smart and Kent Jamieson. . The second goal was scored by Brad Lemieux assisted by Ryan Pickard and the last goal by Brad Lemieux also assisted by Ryan Pickard and Corey Mason. This game was very exciting to watch with both teams displaying some great hockey skills. - The last game of the morning for the Pee Wee division was a great game as well. This game between Consumer's Gas and Larocque end- ed in a score of 2 for Consumers and 1 for Larocque. Consumer's Scott Airey opened the scoring on a real nice shot and getting the assist was Wade Sheedy. Larocque tied the game in the se- cond period with Kevin Pearce get- ting a pretty goal after a lot of hus- tle and hard work. Then in the third, this goal won the game, which was scored by Scott |\( Airey, unassisted and very well , deserved. The whole Larocque team played well as did Consumers. Super goaltending by Andrew Pereman and Mike Tripp kept this game so close. This year should show a lot of ex- cellent hockey games. Each of the five teams this year have a lot of very strong players and all the players will hopefully enjoy a year with good competition, learning of good sportsmanship and most im- portantly, having a lot of "Fun."
