i New interest in C Ie 3 A i] i i New season of Social Planning Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader On Monday September 28 the Scugog Social Planning Council began its new season of meetings every other month at the Central meeting place of the Port Perry United Church. It would seem that new interest has been kindled as 29 people at- tended the luncheon or just the meeting. The main concern was of special interest to all - namely a food & clothing centre for the needy of the area. The discussion was directed by members of the Ministerial Association who had representatives from the surroun- ding area. The result of the study was that a committee was formed with representatives from the Clergy, Social Planning Council, Social Ser- vices, Uxbridge area, and Township Council who will report some con- crete suggestions to the meeting on November 30. Saturday's paper drive was very successful and now there is enough to take to Toronto for recycling. Thanks to all who helped in any way. Now Apple Day follows two weeks later. The 'Harvest Home"' old fashion- ed church service at the "Head Memorial" Museum Church on Sun- day night was enjoyed just as much as other years with a full choir, a good message, joyful singing and good old pies. Sat. of this week the "Head" U.C.W. will cater to a wedding at the Latcham Centre. Now of course the children look forward to the end of the month & Hallowe'en. As it comes on a Satur- day this year the parents have dou- ouncil ble planning for costumes for the children and themselves. No sooner will the children be home when parents adorn themselves and travel to the Community Hall for the Annual Hallowe'en Dance 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. If funds permit, there may be prizes. Madeline Cawker's sister from Bridgenorth, Shropshire, Eng. returned to Canada after 5 years as she wanted to see the colour at this time of year. She spent 5 weeks in Can. with relatives and 10 days of this with Madeline and her family.
