A new format for the Club Cham- pionship at Crestwood Golf Club this year provided a thrilling finish to a 36 hole medal play competition. The first round leaders had healthy leads in both the gross and net divi- sions. Peter Clifford shot a 77 for a three shot lead and Ernie Rowland shot a net 61 for a four shot lead. However, in the second round the margin tightened up as Roger Cur- rie pulled even with Clifford and was gaining on Rowland as well. On the 18th hole, Currie needed a 15 foot putt to tie Clifford for gross and cause a playoff. He made it only to lose the sudden death playoff four holes later to the new gross cham- pion Peter Clifford.
