The weather was absolutely perfect and the crowds were excellent. Congratulations. Last Thursday, the County Ploughing Match was held at Byersdale Farms with a large number of contestants and spec- tators. Surely it is a sign that summer is over when the fair season is upon us. Sympathy is extended to several families on their recent losses. Attention all Senior Citizens: There will be a meeting at the Town Hall on Sept. 14th at 1:30 p.m. to which all seniors are invited. There will be talks about Tax benefits and other important items that all senior citizens should know, but might not. The only way is to attend this meeting. Happy Birthday greetings to Mrs. Lorenza McArthur who celebrated her 80th birthday recently. Her family hosted a birthday party in her honour at her home. After the races, the Johansens and Campbells surprised Nellie and Bernie Gray and company at the Greenwood Ratepayers Assoc. Annual BBQ keeping the festivities going until the wee hours of the morning. A great way to let off steam. There were 12 tables of euchre at the weekly card party with the following winners: Leslie Taylor, Flossie Cameron, Clarence Masters, Dorothy Edwards, Roy Werry, Laverne Clemens. Low- Thelma McCraight. Draws were won by Meta Swain, Carl Gimblett, Elizabeth Kelly and J. Poots. This coming Sunday at the United Church is an occasion when all former Choir Members are invited to return. In addition to the special music the congregation is invited to wear Period Costumes to create the flavour of the Centepnial. Then on the 20th of Sept., the following Sun- day, former ministers Rev. C.W. Hutton and Rev. R.B. Harrison and their wives will be conducting the service. Following Church, a Pot Luck casserole lunch will be held so that a social time of renewing ac- quaintances with these two families can be enjoyed. Tell your friends who would be interested in attending either of these special events on Sept. 13th and 20th. The Lions Club will resume meetings following their summer recess. What is our area coming to? The Blackstock Lions Sign at the south end of the village was sawed off and removed recently. Any infor- mation of its whereabouts would be appreciated by the club. A new little sprout on the large VanCamp family tree arrived last week with the arrival of Dale and Janet's baby boy. Congratulations. Ag rep appointed Wm. J. (Bill) Baxter has been ap- pointed to the position of Agricultural Representative in Durham (West) Region. Prior to his appointment, he served as Farm Management Specialist with the On- tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food in Victoria and Haliburton Counties. Mr. Baxter brings to this county 'a strong background in organiza- tions and a broad knowledge of the agricultural industry. Besides an extension worker, he has been a farmer, a salesman, and owned a small feed business. In 1978, Mr. Baxter was president of the Ontario Pork Congress, an in- dustry show run entirely by pork producers and agri-business volunteers. In his new role, Mr. Baxter is reponsible for co-ordinating exten-- sion programs in Durham West, ad- vising farmers in all areas of farm management, and delivering Ministry programs for farmers. He is married with four children, two of whom are still home and at- tending Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute. He plans to move to the Uxbridge area next summer following the school year, and is looking forward to working with the region's farmers. NOW ON VIDEO ...
