Homecraft Division had a successful show The Homecraft Division of the Port Perry Fair report a successful exhibition of baking, canning, needlework, crafts, etc., with many of the first time exhibitors winning prizes. The following is a list of some of the prize winners at the 1987 fair: The "Lillian Smith 'Memorial Trophy" donated by Roy Walker Smith, was awarded to Helen McKean, Greenbank, the winner of the most points overall in the Homecraft Division. Mrs. McKean will keep this silver tray for a period of one year. In the Flower Section, there were four specials awarded this year. A special of $10.00 donated by the Honeydale Women's Institute was won by Grace Bajema, Nestleton. The special by Analda Nursery, Blackstock, was won by (1st) Deidre Earle, (2nd) Ann Bajema, and (3rd) Grace Bajema. The Ux- bridge Nurseries, Greenbank, special went to Kathy Hewitt, Omemee, and the Scugog Island Women's Institute special for the highest points in the Flower Section went to Grace Bajema of Nestleton. In the Domestic Science Section of the Homecraft Division, there were eight specials awarded, as well as a Men's Only class. The winner of the "Men's Only" Iced Chocolate Layer Cake was Murdoch Belair, Seagrave. This class attracted six entries from local men. Congratula- tions to all the participants. The J.M. Schneider Limited specials were won by Helen Coates for her Apple Pie; Ann Bajema for her Chocolate Cake; and Helen Coates for her Butter Tarts. Five pounds of butter given by the Durham Region Cream Producers' Association was won by Ann Ba- jema for the Light Layer Cake; New John Deere Dorothy Lee for the Butter Tarts; and Doreen Pothier for the Chocolate Brownies. Hank's Pastries Limited Special for a Single Layer Cake decorated was won by Wendy Davis of Scugog Island. The special donated by Mother Jackson's Open Kitchens Limited was won by Doreen Pothier, with Dorothy Lee and Penny Pettypiece receiving the second and third prizes. Dowson's Valu-Mart special for the Grand Champion Pie from five classes was won by Frieda Cochrane for her prize-winning cherry pie. Mrs. Cochrane was, also, the recipient of the Willowtree Orchards special for the Fresh Ap- ple Pie. Doreen Pothier won first prize, Dorothy Lee second and Penny Pet- typiece third in the Fry's Cocoa Family Favourite Dessert Special. The 'Extra Special' Dark Fruit Cake Special donated by the Port Perry Loyal Orange Lodge, winner of $75.00 first prize was Ona Short, Seagrave. Second prize of $25.00 went to Catherine Short, $15.00 third prize to Christina Prentice and the $10.00 fourth prize to Eileen MacIn- tosh. The first prize cake was auc- tioned off on Saturday evening for $275.00. The Men's Only first prize cake was auctioned off as well, for $40.00. In the Canning Section the winner of the New Homemaker basket Special was Kathy Hewitt. 'The Bernardin of Canada Limited Special in the Canned Fruit classes was won by Alice Dodd, Port Perry, with Janet Vernon getting the se- cond prize. The $10.00 Gift Certificate from Port Perry Needlecraft for the highest total points in the knitting and crocheting classes was won by Helen Heard. The "Vogue Pattern Magazine subscription donated by the But- terick Fashion Marketing Company for the most points in the Sewing Section was won by Helen McKean. Margaret Pascoe won the Special donated by the Honeydale Women's Institute for the most outstanding article in the Embroidery Classes. The $10.00 Gift Certificate donated by Daisy Fabrics for the most outstanding article in the Miscellaneous Section, using new material, was won by Chris Douglas, and the $15.00 Special donated by McCalls Patterns was won by Helen McKean for ex- cellence (highest points) in the Needlework Section. In the "Displays by Organiza- tions" Section the Greenbank PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, September 9, 1987 -- 17 Women's Institute won the $25.00 first prize, with Honeydale W.I. receiving $20.00 for second place, Scugog Island W.1. $15.00 for third, the Hospital Auxiliary and Bethesda-Reach W.I. each getting $10.00 for their displays. The "Lillian Smith Memorial' of $25.00 donated by Roy Walker Smith, was given to B. Sue Douglas for the most points in the Crafts and Hobbies Section. Helen Lavender received the Sears $25.00 Gift Certificate for the highest total points in the Needlework and Crafts and Hobbies Sections. In Photography, the 1-Hour "Special Effects' Special was won by Gloria Eng-Oravec, with Darlene Colton winning the second prize. There was a three-way tie for the Ron King Auction Service Special for the exhibitors winning the highest points in the Photography Section. Winners were B. Sue Douglas, Gloria Eng-Oravec and Darlene Colton. The Junior Fair plaques given by Don Cochrane Auction Service, Port Perry, go to Kimberley Coates and Brad Davis for winning the highest number of points. In the 'Boys and Girls - 5 years and under," the Audrey Lee Special of $5.00 went to Craig Evans and Sarah Smith for most points. In "'Boys and Girls - 6 to 8 years' section, the Rachel McMillan Special of $5.00 went to Jennifer A Smith, Katie Coates and Robin Popovitch. In "Boys and Girls - 9 to 11 years," the Chicken Coop, Greenbank Special of $5.00 went to Sarah Dur- ward, Leigh Prentice & Lisa Taylor for most points. The "Fun at the Fair' Poster Special donated by Janet Vernon was won by Julie Popovitch for first, second went to Leigh Prentice and third to Lisa Taylor. In "Boys and Girls - 12 to 14 years the Dave and Bev Muir Special of $5.00 went to Sarah Crox- all, Cherry Evans and Elizabeth Connell for most points. The Special donated by the Honeydale Women's Institute for a "Fun at the Fair' poster, any media. First place went to Karen Skelding, and second to Sarah Croxall. Winners of the Clown Contest in the Junior Fair were Nicole Welts, Evalor Ayotte, Christopher Langford.
