They could not spend the holiday weekend with his parents because Dr. Bill and his wife Marilyn are fly- ing to Paris, France this week where he will attend an Interna- tional Lung Association Conference He has been selected to present a paper on his research of this topic. There was a corn roast at the home of Arnold and Gail Kerry on Friday evening when Epsom-Utica Social Club met for fun and games co-hosts with the Kerry's were, Ralph and Deanne Nottingham and Steve and Alice Lea. There was a good group and all report a good time. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Watson and her brother Mr. A. Cuddia attended the'Steam Show at Milton on Mon- day. The Watsons spent the night at Mr. Cuddia's home. Keep in mind the annual Harvest Home at Pine Grove Church Oc- tober 4 at 3 p.m. Guest speaker Rev. M. Locke and Epsom Junior Choir. Mr. Wm. Huggins and Miss Alvena Jeffery of Orillia visited Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Jeffery on Sunday. Mrs. Evelyn Hansen and Carl moved to their new home in Port Perry. We wish them many years of happiness and we are glad to welcome her son John and his wife Joanne and family to our village Mrs. Luella Bailey is at Uxbridge Hospital now having been transfer- red from Centenary. Peggy Burke and two daughters of North Bay and Miss Tina Ruhl of Toronto were holiday weekend visitors with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Chris Ruhl. Many from the area attended Port Perry Fair this last long holiday before the school opening. Last Sunday evening Rev. Floyd Wilson, his wife Helen and family of London had dinner and visited with his parents Elmer and Ruth Wilson. Earl and Elizabeth Taylor and Miss Ruth Taylor attended Toronto Ex on Thursday. Cathy's parents Paul and Shirley Baster took her to McMaster last weekend and visited Paul's parents at Smith Villa. Don and Stella Asling were visited by Don Lamb and his wife of Toron- to last Tuesday. The Lamb's had just returned from a trip to England and Ireland. There was a lovely "Welcome Home Barbecue' at the home of Sandy and Ron Wagner for their daughter Rhonda who has been in Brisbone, Australia for the summer vacation on a teen mission. Her aunt Ruth Ashton was one of the guests. Mr. Herb Thomas of Markham visited Betty and Norman Tapscott one day last week. We were sorry to learn that Gor- don Postma's mother is ill. Jill's mother has been hospitalized also and we are pleased to learn that both mothers are making a satisfac- tory recovery. Volunteers The Victorian Order of Nurses co- ordinates a volunteer visiting pro- gram that provides friendship and support to patients and their families. Volunteers, men and women, visit patients in their homes, once a week for one and one-. half hours. They might play a game, share a craft, help with banking or groceries, or simply have a chat over a cup of tea, while bringing the priceless gift of service and en- thusiasm to those who are ill or han- dicapped, isolated and shut-in. Happy day for golfer with a hole in one Prince Albert and Area News by llean Pugh One afternoon last week Grace Beacock and Gertie Wanamaker visited at the Devitt home in Oshawa. Later the three ladies din- ed at the Marwood Park Restaurant. It was a very happy day for Jack Holtby on August 31 when he had a Hole-In-One at the Summerlea Golf Course. It has been a good year for Jack as he also had one on May 11. He has been golfing for seven years and only had 2 other holes in one. Betty Collins and son Gordon returned hcme recently after visiting relatives in British Columbia. Belated birthday greetings to Hat- tie Irwin who had a birthday on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Almer Beacock of Elmvale visited at the Les Beacock home on Friday. Sorry to report that Albert Jeffrey is back in hospital again. Your friends are thinking of you. Sympathy is extended to the families of Bob Vernon who passed away very suddenly last Thursday. On Saturday evening Merv and I, my mother Pearl Gostick, Paul and Bonnie Solomon and daughter Laurel, attended a family birthday party in Toronto at the home of Patricia Gostick for my brother Gordon Gostick. Well the weather was good for the Port Perry Fair and by any reports I have heard the fair was a success. We have one resident here who thinks the Bossy Bingo was alright and that is Beth Grills the lucky win- ner on Monday of $1,127.00. Con- gratulations Beth. As we start into the fall season many of our young people are star- ting into something new. It could be school for the first time or stepping up to high school or going off to Col- lege or University or a steady job. What ever stage you are at "Best of Luck." The first U.C.W. meeting for the fall season will be held this week (Wednesday) in the church base- ment at 8 p.m. Theroll call: a verse from the Bible with the word "book"' in it. All ladies are welcome. A special notice to parents with boys. A newsletter will be sent home from school this week regarding the Scouting activities for this area.
