Intermediate "C' playoffs. In game one, Monday night in Greenbank, the Eagles jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a Rob Evans walk, Jay Williams getting hit by the pitch and slugger Larry Pilkey's hard single to center field scoring Evans. The game cruised along quietly for the next four innings un- til Port exploded with four runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Dave Dickson singled, Rob Evans again walked and clean up batter Jay Williams clubbed a single to center scoring both runners to break the game open. Pilkey followed with a mammoth two run shot to left field to increase the score to five runs. In the Gambler half of the sixth, they rallied for two runs when Hugh Johnston reached first on an error, Trevor Till walked and both came home on Greg Rodd's double. In the seventh inning, Ken Bryant reached first on an error, Colin Wackett singled and Rob Evans hit a sacrifice fly to pad the lead to 6-2. In the bottom of the seventh, the Gamblers closed the gap by one, on consecutive hits by Rodd Real, John Foster and Randy Underwood. On Monday evening Port Perry entertained the Oshawa Club to a return social evening. The Oshawa Club expressed their enjoyment of the evening and con- gratulated us on our new facilities. The XL Eagles battled back to Ygrab a 3-2 lead in the third inning. Bill Bridge singled to center, and moved to third on a Colin Wackett hit and scored on a passed ball. Rob Evans rounded out the scoring with a two run blast over the left field fence to assume the lead for good. In the fourth inning Eagle third demonstrated some dazzling foot- work by stretching a routine single into a double when the outfielder casually relayed the ball into se- cond. Then Pilkey tagged up and: moved to third base on a Heintzman fly ball out. A few pitches later, he stole home on the catcher's return throw to the pitcher, making the score 4-2. Heintzman's pitching continued to frustrate the Greenbank batters as he allowed only two hits after their first inning uprising. In the sixth in- ning, Rob Evans scored an in- surance run on his triple and Jay Williams' sacrifice fly to center field, thus giving Port Pefry XI Eagles a two game sweep for the defending Ontario Champions. Claremoni Legion defeated Fraserville 1-0 in thirteen innings to advance into the zone finals two games to one. Tentative dates for the final have Port Perry in Clare- mont Tuesday night and back home on Friday night. # Greenbank Stars advance to final With fire in their eyes and grit in their teeth, the Greenbank All Stars travelled to Claremont for the final, 0.A.S.A. best 2 out of 3 series on Fri- day, August 14. The Greenbank All Stars looked a little drowsy at first when Clare- mont jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings but.in the top of the third a little spark lit a fire. It was Dar- rin Bacon and Mark Shepherd who led with 2 walks. Then it was John Ennis who cranked a single to right field scoring Bacon and Shepherd making the score 3-2 in favour of Claremont. -- Greenbank really woke up in the top of the fourth when Chris Donnel- ly led off with a ground ball to left field and Mark Shepherd followed suit with a "poke" to second base. John Ennis then took a walk and John Chronis drove a single past Claremont's short-stop to score 2 runs and make the score 4-3 for Greenbank. But it wasn't over yet! Tim Timms then hit one up the middle to score Ennis and leave the inning at a 5-3 lead for Greenbank. Claremont then got 1 run in the fifth but nothing else could get through Greenbank's defence this inning and thus the score rémained 5-4 still in favour of Greenbank. Things started to heat up a bit in the top of the seventh when Ken Winslow cranked a line drive to left centre field for a base hit. David Donneral then drew a walk and Mark Shepherd drove a classy ground ball to the outfield to score Winslow and Donneral. John Ennis then singled to bring Mark Shepherd home and make the score 8-4 for Greenbank. Claremont almost caught up hay- ing last bat but only managed to get three runs and make the final score 8-7 for the Greenbank All Stars.
