PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 28, 1987 -- 13 Radiology Department modernized 4 3 A ee oh & ; 4 3 Ai i Community Memorial Hospitals long awaited new X-ray equipment has arrived, and is now installed. The equipment, which is valued at $280,000 is the most modern available, and will be a definite asset to the hospital's Radiology Department. In an interview with the Star, Dr. John DiCesare, the Director of Radiology, said that the new equip- ment is very versatile and gives off avery low radiation level. 'In fact, it is about 10 times less than the old x-ray machine," he said. The modernizing of the Radiology Department is said to have cost over $300,000 and included in this figure is the large computerized equip- ment in the main room, as well as a secondary x-ray room with equip- ment valued at $34,000 donated by the McLaren Estate; a portable x- ray machine ($15,000) which will be used in the Operating Room and the Wards, which was donated by the Hospital Auxiliary, and the necessary renovations. Hospital administrator David Brown told the Star that of the Members of the Radiology Department are all smiles these days, since $280,000 worth of new x-ray equipment has been installed. They are shown here with the new equipment, from original budget of $280,000 for equip- ment, to date they are about $69,000 short, so they will continue to try and raise funds to complete the project. The new X-ray machine has a fluoroscopic unit which will view in- ternal organs such as the stomach, bowel, gall bladder etc., and a monitor to view special procedures. The bed (or table) moves up, down, back and forth so once the pa- tient has been laid down, they do not have to be moved. "This is very im- portant when we are working with older people," Dr. DiCesare said. The heartline of the new machine is the fully automated computeriz- ed control station. Here, each of the possible procedures has been pro- grammed ahead of time, so all the X-ray technician has to do is push the proper program. This eliminates times, and errors according to Dr. DiCesare. The staff of the Radiology Depart- ment are more than pleased with the new equipment, but it won't just be a benefit to them, as the entire community will benefit.
