We have many ex- citing activities planned for next week. Our theme next week is monster week. We will be making puppets, painting monster pictures etc. Friday afternoon we are going on a bottle walk. We collect bottles to raise money for trips. It would be appreciated if you could donate bot- tles and if your child could bring a wagon so that it will be easier to ~ carry the*bottles. Bring a Hat! Next week your child will receive a "book of tickets for a cake raf- fle. Each child must sell two books in order to help pay for the trip. Thanks for your support! W.I. bake sale Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader We all know the past weekend brought great pleasure to people around Port Perry at least for those who had a great sense of physical endurance. Even adherents of adults and children were loyal to attendance at - the Island United. Dr. McKay who has favoured us many times was the -mjinister in charge of the service. In- identally, we now know why he is so capable and enduring in his dai- ly tasks. It is becausé he never forgets his morning porridge. At this point we are reminded of what salt does for this food and what it has done for man through the ages. Even though there may be 3 hours of intensive searching and buying at the Island Community Hall this Sapurday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be hours of preparation by the ladies of the Women's Institute in picking up and arranging your donations & preparing their baked foods. No one will call at your home this year - unless you call Betty Reader 985-7616 or Penny Kutlik 985-3730 - or you may find it handier to leave your donation at the hall any time after 9 p.m. Reg. Davis and his wife have now got a start on their new house on A Davis property facing on Con¥. They have found trailer living with 2 young children rather cramped. The ladies of the Women's In- stitute are reminded to bring in their quilt tickets on Saturday. We can look forward to another chicken barbeque at the Island United Church on August 1. You may purchase tickets from Pat Taylor or Bonnie Gerrow. Guest speaker Ashburn and Area News by Florence Ashton We were pleased to welcome Miss Lois Powrie to Burns Church pulpit last Sunday morning, who is deaconess with the national office of the Women's Missionary Society. The mens choir favoured us with a lovely selection "'I Shall not he Mov- ed." Miss Powrie delivered a very fine message which was relevant to the mission of our church. Our whole purpose as Christians is to strengthen the body of Jesus Christ around the world. In com- municating.the gospel to the world, first of all we have to learn how to communicate, our concerns should be for the well being of all people, we have to learn to listen, and to remember that we are all mis- sionaries - that we are the church. We can all communicate the gospel regardless of age. We are looking forward to Miss Powries return to us in late August, Next Sunday, we will have as our guest minister, Rev. Donald Johnson from Crystal City, Manitoba. We warmly welcome any visitors or friends to join us in wor- ship at 11:15 a.m. each Sunday mor- ning throughout the summer months. The summer church services are being held-at Glen Major cach Sun- day evening throughout July and August, including Labour Day Weekend at 7:30 p.m. with Mr. Claude Simmonds conducting the services. A warm welcome awaits all who would like to attend. My special thanks to Rose Heron for a job well done in keeping you in- formed, during my absence. Visitors with Bill and Bernice Gardner recently were Mr. Don Gardner, Virden, Manitoba, Mr. and Mrs. Rees Williams, Don Mills, Mr. and Mrs. David Mann, Oshawa, Mr. Larry Strank and Miss Donna Bonnell, Oshawa and Mrs. Irma Tripp, Blackstock. Visiting with Ted and Rose Heron this past week were Jessie and Reg. Doubt of Elora and Elaine and Ken Heron of Bracebridge. Co pa Gall Go 3 a aA RZ. ANIA a a lL pa a eel 2 nan: vA
