This year, the Caesarea based regatta marks its 55th anniversary, and while it offers a few new sur- prises, the regatta will still feature all the events that has made it so popular. To kick the whole event off in grand style, and to raise some funds to pay for the celebration, organizers once again present the Caesarea Annual Golf Tournament on July 25. At Sunnybrae Golf Course, the tournament gets under- way with registrationat8a.m., and . a shot-gun start at 9 a.m. Sunnybrae members pay only $6 to play, while non-members pay $20. Regatta president Len Prout says 111 golfers turned out last year, and he's hoping for the same or even more this year. A rocking chair from Homestead Furniture will be awarded to the player closest to pin. . Led off by the local fire department, the parade is being held for boys and girls 11 years old and younger, with prizes for all age groups for fancy and original costumes, decorated carriages, wagons and bicycles. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the fire hall and winds up at Putsey Park, where judging takes place. When that's completed, and prizes have been awarded, the Miss Regat- ta Beauty Contest begins, for en- trants between the ages of 14 and 20. On Saturday afternoon, a whole slew of field events get underway with contests ranging from a marathon to novelty races, from nail driving to three-legged races. A tug of war will top the afternoon off with some rousing competition. Weather permitting, windsurfing will be going on at the main pier beach, and a ball game will be held for married men versus single men Saturday evening, followed by a GUARANTEED INVESTMENT Annual Rates Monte Carlo Night at the Communi- ty Hall. Sunday morning begins with a horseshoe tournament and con- tinues with sailboat racing, volleyball, swimming events and more horseshoes. Monday morning boasts a myriad of paddling events for canoeists of all ages, including a crab race and a war canoe race. And new to the regatta, the Pine Ridge Cloggers will perform Satur- day at 1:30 p.m. in Putsey Park. Also, music by John Blair and friends will fill the air on Sunday morning. As Len Prout says, there's a lot to do and see, especially for the younger set. "That's why we do it," he said. "It's just for the kids. It keeps them busy for three days.
