It appeared as if wet weather was going to hamper the ef- forts on Friday evening but for- tunately the storm blew by, the skies fine number of competitors provid- ed excellent entertainment for the large crowds. M.C. Harvey Graham and Harold Wright kept the crowd informed and entertained. Without a doubt the event must be classified as successful. This coming weekend will be the _ cleared and the action continued. A Clarence and Margaret Anderson of R. R. 3, Port Perry celebrated a Golden Wedding anniversary on June 3. They were married 50 years ago in Holy Trinity Church in Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson have lived at Portview Beach for the past ten years. Members of their family and friends got together at their home last Friday to help them celebrate this very special occasion. MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McDiarmid of Nestleton are.pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Mary Lynn to Alexander Welker, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Houston of Cobourg, and the late Mr. Ernest Welker. The marriage to take place on September 12, 1987, at the Blackstock United Church, Blackstock. Tractor pull was terrific big Beacock Family Reunion held in the village and the following Satur- day evening will be the first Fiddle Contest to be sponsored by the Blackstock Agricultural Society. Today (Monday), playground has begun as has the O.N.O. Swimming bus to Uxbridge Uxpool each morning. Susan Kyte and Janet Kelly left on Thursday morning for a two week Durham Board of Education student exchange to Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. The girls return for two days and then the Quebec students will spend two weeks with the Blackstock girls. Lawrence VanCamp left on Satur- day for a Junior Farmer exchange to Alberta in the Calgary area. Sympathy is extended to Murray Coates and his family Barbara & Jim Farmer and John and Helen Coates, and families on the passing of Clara Coates after a long illness. Our thoughts are also extended to Clara's sister Dora Suggitt on the loss. Recent callers of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thompson were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Beatty of Cannington and Grant's two sisters Mrs. Vera War- mington and Mrs. Alba Currie of Beaverton. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Suggitt and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill VanCamp en- joyed a few days holiday a couple of weeks ago at the lovely cottage of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Asselstine north of Napanee. Better health is wished for Ivan Thompson who is in Oshawa Hospital and to Mrs. Wilbur Toms who is in Port Perry Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Richard VanCamp are looking very proud as first-time grandparents with the arrival of a baby daughter of Lois and Glen McLeod last week. Congratulations - to Mrs. Margaret VanCamp who 'has become great- -grandmother as well. Rev. and Mrs. Dale Davis have returned home from a very en- joyable holiday to the British Isles and Europe. While in London they enjoyed visiting their son Peter. The Senior Citizens Special Centennial Euchre party attracted twenty-three tables in the Rec Cen- tre with the following winners 1. Dorothy Edwards with a fine score of 95, 2. Grant Bright, 3. Harold Swain, 4. Gladys Potts, 5. Myrtle Gimblett, 6. Doris Evans, 7. Dorothy Venning. Prizes were awarded to Edna Larmer and Wm. Forder as the oldest lady and gent - both well into their nineties and to Elizabeth Kelly and Alex Moffat as youngest. Door prize was won by Grant Bright.
