13 years as correspondent for the Star Seagrave and Area News A by Marilyn Beacock After careful and lengthy con- sideration I regret to infrm you that I will be resigning as correspon- dent for this column. It was a very difficult decision to make as I have been writing news items for this col- umn for, I think, about 13 years and I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing the news of our little village to you. I appreciate the compliments peo- ple have passed along to me regar- ding this column and over the course of the years there have been some who have not been pleased but it's hard to please everyone and if it's possible to please most of the people, most of the time I guess, over all, it's not too bad an average. I have recently started working full-time and I cite that as being the main reason that I'm resigning. I wish to extend my appreciation to all those who were kind enough to phone with news items, or to say "What a great column that was last week' - it sure brightened my day! A special thank-you to the wonder- ful gals in the Star office who have had to read my hen scratching and try to decipher what it was I was trying to write for the past several years and to Pete Hvidsten who was kind enough to allow me to bring the Seagrave news to you through the medium of the Port Perry Star. It has been a wonderful ex- perience and opportunity for me and I am going to miss it very much. In closing I wish to take this op- portunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. : Please continue to support the other correspondents who prepare this column for you. They ap- preciate it as much as I have. Next weeks news correspondent is Diane Cooke. Please call her at 985-3722. CARPENTRY SERVICES The hot and sunny weather that we have been favoured with lately is certainly a wonderful bonus to all those who are lucky enough to be on their vacation time. I trust all of our young readers are enjoying their hard-earned holiday too. Congratulations to Brett Puckrin upon earning the prestigious award of "Outstanding Boy' at the gradua- tion ceremonies held recently at R.H. Cornish Public School. We ex- tend our best wishes to you Brett and we want you to know that we are very proud of you and your achievement! Last weekend was certainly one to be recorded in everyones memory bank! The Port Perry High School Reunion by all accounts was a re- sounding success! Several hundred people were present to mentally turn back the clock to renew past ac- quaintances and generally bask in nostalgia for a couple of days. - The committee are to be highly commended for the many; many hours of time and effort that was concentrated on making it the tremendous succes that it was. I would be remiss if did not also extend a vote of thanks to Paul Ar- culus who masterminded the idea of a Memorial Gardens on the south lawn of the school. A very novel idea and one that certainly enhances the beauty of the school grounds. A very grateful thank-you to one and all for arranging this very special event. Memories are precious and this one just filled another leaf in my book of wonder- ful ones!
