News next week 985-2924 Strawberry Social The Prince Albert U.C.W. hosted a glant Strawberry Social in honour of Ontario's bicentennial, & it was such a success that we decided to do it again this year. This time it is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of United Church Women & also a celebration of the village of Prince Albert. The village used to be the biggest town in the area, supporting a patent medicine factory, mill, numerous merchants, three hotels & an equal number of churches. The Port Whitby-Port Perry railroad changed the impor- tance of the community in 1868 by terminating in Port' Perry, by- passing Prince Albert and causing a.boom for the former & a gradual decline of the latter. The Weslayan Methodist Church, where we now worship, was built in 1866, so we lare well over 100 years old (121) and of the original chur- ches, we are the only one remaining in the village. The Strawberry Social will be held on Sunday, June 21st, from 2-4 p.m. The location is Sharview Farm, Simcoe St. S., at the south-end of the village of Prince Albert, The farm is at least as old as the church & the lawns will be filled with tables just as in days past. There will be three strawberry deserts, (All You Can Eat) for a price of $5 adult; $2 10 & under; and pre-schoolers free. The: hit of any social was the entertainment, & that will surely be the same on this occasion; old tyme dancers, monologues & songs from the past, all presented from the front porch of the century-old farmhouse. We are straight north of Oshawa, east of Manchester & south of Port Perry, but for further directions or information, please call Linda McMillan 985-3143. We're celebrating & we invite everyone to join us.
